*Every 6 - 9 days depending on need, on highest setting which is about 2.5".
*Lawn: mixture of KBG, rye, and fescue. Will overseed this spring with a shady mix from Seedland.com. We have a lot of shade.
*Fertilizer: Scotts with Tupersan (selective preemergent crabicide) in April, half dose of Milorganite every 2 - 3 weeks through June, then back off.
*Water: shooting for 1" per week including rainfall. We have very sandy soil, so watering is an absolute must. I try to verify water addition with cat food cans.
I aerated for the first time last fall, may do it again this spring? adjulian, whether you choose a thatch rake or a power thatcher depends on the size of your yard. A half an acre with a manual thatch rake will kill you!

change that this year. Our ground has a great deal of clay as well.
I am debating on either manually using a dethatching rake, renting a dethatching machine, or getting a dethatching attachment for the lawn mower. Any thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks for any help. | Haha not a threadjack at all i want this thread to go where ever, thats what i was looking for, my questions were just to get it started.
As for the dethatching thats a tough one i would get one for your machine but thats just me.
Oh and for anyone of you with bluegrass or any fescue, yall are lucky you can stripe your lawn. like the baseball fields, SCAG POWER EQUIPMENT - TIGER STRIPER™ - LAWN STRIPING SYSTEM is a great website to explain striping, i made my own striper out of some heavy pipe for the commercial john deere on the larger yard.
I really like the look of lawn striping but some people don't care for it to much.
Thanks,

what kind of mower yall use? Snapper, usually bagging. Else with the mulching blade.
what is the general cut height? Not sure, closer to low-end than high (maybe 1/3 of the way up).
Fertilizer etc.? Stay-green from Lowe's. Kinda limited on this cr@p grass.

Mower: Simplicity Broadmoor
Turf: KBG, TTTF, PRG
I try to mow when it needs it, not on a schedule (usually 3-4 days) and cut it at 2.5-3.0 inches. I aearate in the fall (dont want spread any seedlings for crabgrass) and will dethatch and overseed every other or every 3 years.
I've used milorganite but switched to Jonathan Green's organic lawn care and the jury is still out on this ( Jonathan Green - Lawn and Garden Products). I may switch back to milorganite this year.

Kinda limited on this cr@p grass. | I have TIFWAY 419 bermuda grass, i believe Texas A&M had something to do with its development and its great, your in Florida so you need to stay away from blue grass and other fescues as they like the colder climates. Alot of people grow st. augustine in Florida too, but i really really love that tifway its kind of a fine stiff blade grass that does really well in the full sun and is big on golf courses and sports fields. But it all depends on how much money and time you want to put in it, zoysia grass is really nice and really expensive (to me at least). As for the fertilizer i would look for someplace other than lowes, a tractor supply or the best would be a local feedstore is where i get my fertilizer, its just better than the lowes consumer stuff.

I hate doing the grass! It's too hot, and it gets my car dirty. Oh, don't throw your wash water in the grass either. Weeds will start to grow!

Year 1 in my house they put sod down on hard clay I watered the crap out of it to keep it alive and by the fall it still wasn't growing into the ground that well. Year two I had it de thatched and airrated fertilized and sprayed for bugs, I followed their watering plan 3 times a week for 10mins when we had not had rain for more than 48hrs. The grass was better but it still never got thick and by late summer was starting to go brown. Also I have a patch that runs against my driveway that dies ever year by August. Really annoys me.
This year I figure I'll just save myself the $1000 and do it myself.
*Mower: Black & Decker Electric.
*How often: Once a week.
*Lawn: Not sure but it's green.
*Lawnfood: 4 season system I just got from Costco and Scotts for patch repair.
Suggestions would be really appreciated I hate it when my lawn looks like crap. Oh and I'm on clay and the house is south facing in full sun from 7am to about 2:30pm
Thanks

I have Zoysia grass I think that is how you spell it. The good thing about it is mine has been green for weeks. I also put the lines in it like they do in baseball fields and make the grass taller around the trees in a nice design.
