Re: Still fat, need muscle

I just came out of a cutting cycle since February I'm down 47lbs.

Here is my new workout plan.
WORKOUT SCHEDULE
Monday: Treadmill 20 mins (Interval, fasted) (AM); Weight training: chest & Back (PM)
Tuesday: Treadmill 20 mins (Interval, fasted) (AM); (PM) Treadmill 40 mins Interval
Wednesday: Treadmill 20 mins (Interval, fasted) (AM); Weight training: Lower Body (PM)
Thursday: Treadmill 20 mins (Interval, fasted) (AM); (PM) Treadmill 40 mins Interval
Friday: Treadmill 20 mins (Interval, fasted) (AM); Weight training: Triceps & biceps (PM)
Saturday Treadmill 20 mins (Interval, fasted)
Sunday: Rest

All AM Cardio is on my treadmill for the next month it's not warm enough for me to get out in the AM yet. All PM Cardio is jogging outdoors.

I generally do 3 exercises 3 sets for each muscle group keeping it simple.

A great website I visit quite frequently is John Stone Fitness they have a fantastic forum. John Stone Fitness - Welcome!

Re: Still fat, need muscle

White_07_G6_GT- That's a lot of weight to drop! Hope it was primarily fat

Heh heh, twice-a-day cardio...if you do yours as intensely as I do mine, that's something I guess my PM dog-outings don't *really* count as cardio, but I am walking/hiking for a good long time most days.

Good move, doing the AM stuff pre-breakfast That's what I always do and it works great for me. I do mine on the StairMaster (without touching the side rails )- interval training for me too, but I do it for 26 to 29 minutes these days. I do mine every third day, unless my legs are still too sore from leg-day.

Re: Still fat, need muscle

Alright, what are people's favorite exercises for back (lats, primarily)? I typically do 3 sets of wide grip pull ups, 3 sets of reverse grip chinups, and 3 sets of cable rows. What else could I throw in there? I mainly want to make them wider as opposed to thicker, but I would still like to add one thickening exercise.

I do palms-down wide-grip pullups/chins with weight around my waist (drop weight as necessary until I'm down to bodyweight only for the last set) and bent over close-grip barbell rows. I'll add some straight-arm push downs and unilateral db or cable rows now and then for variety. Sometimes I'll alter the pullup/chin style a bit too, again, just for variety.
