Makita
Nninja- That sounds like a good way to get the extra calories/protein I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that you must be a good bit younger than I am as I suspect you still have a pretty fast metabolism.
03DubU R EX & ajbarnes- Sounds like plenty of people like that ON brand. How thick is it when mixed with milk? I still keep going back to MetRx in part because of how thick it mixes up.

Accumulator,
I've tried that stuff before, it's cheap in price and ok as a protein source. I've never had anything come close to MetRx in thickness and taste. I'm only talking about the Original MetRx which I think they now call it a Meal Replacement in the Box. Go figure, lol

That's what I always say too, but I want to keep an open mind about other brands.

How do you all try new brands? Is there any way to get samplers of various products? I usually buy my stuff from GNC because gold card + military discount stacks nicely... but I am open to ordering online.

If I see something interesting I will buy a tub. I have been given some samples in the past from companies though. Ordering online is the way to go, way cheaper in most instances.

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?
Is muscle milk cheaper on line than anywhere else? Even after shipping?

I usually just add stuff to MetRX vanilla or chocolate. But I'm interested in trying some of the muscle milk and isopure flavors mentioned in the thread...especially since muscle milk has a huge number of strange flavors... I'd hate to buy a bucket of
20 pack of MetRX is 42.99 - 6.30 mil discount - 8.60 on gold card. That makes it around 28 dollars....which is fairly reasonable. DPSNutrition has it on special for $25+ shipping so it works out OK.
But I would like to get a variety pack of isopure/muscle milk...

My GNC and Vitamin Shoppe places will take back stuff that I don't like. I dunno if it's a normal policy or just because I'm somebody worth keeping happy
My Vitamin Shoppe has Muscle Milk on sale (closeout?) but I dunno what the price is as I don't care for the stuff (too thin for my taste).

I think GNC takes stuff back easily. It's also very convenient because they have it right here on post (vitamin shoppe is a ways away as there is not much out here). I'm just kind of searching for some stuff to mix it up a bit more than my choco/vanilla metrx with various stuff thrown in. I guess I could just get a tub of muscle milk/ispure and see if even its consistency is workable for me. With flavors like rootbeer float and blueberries and cream it makes muscle milk sound like it could introduce a bit more variety easily. I haven't run into digestion problems due to the MetRX (I attribute the problem I did have to be due to bad Mexican food )
By the way I got a "milkshake" blade for my Oster blender, so I have it setup on a second base for my pitcher. It mixes METRX and the other powders pretty well, it just doesn't crush ice, but it does work for frozen/whole fruit OK (I like having little tidbits instead of a total puree). I think the next step up would be one of those Margaritaville machines that has a separate ice shaver and mixer portion...
Also: Does anyone have any pointers on pre-workout/pre-competition (sports/sprints) drinks? Also what do you all drink during your workouts? I usually drink 50/50 gatorade and water (sometimes more like 30/70).

I have a big serving spoon I use to crush the ice cubes (the dogs come running when they hear it as they both love ice cubes).
I have never tried the Oster milkshake blade, I figured it'd make things even *more* aerated. My older Oster died and the new one spins too fast...puts too much air in the mix as it is and I sure don't want to make things worse. (Gee, no I didn't simply *try* the other blade instead of just making assumptions )

I usually don't drink *anything* but I'll sometimes stick my head under the faucet (weight room has a sink in it). My workouts are pretty brief compared to some people's and I don't really work up a sweat when I lift (even on leg day) despite brief intervals between exercises/sets. I used to spend a lot longer on my workouts, but I do better this way

Re: Best/favorite protein shake?
I've been lifting 4 days a week for about 2 years now. I use to take the Vitamin shop brand protein. I had to take 2 serving of that twice day. One serving = 24g of protein. I renectly moved and had to switch gyms. I now go to X-Sport and they have the whey / casein protein that kicks *** over there. One serving = 60g of protein. I dont remember the calorie content, but its either 280 or 380. I always forget but it was mabe 20 more calories than the Vitamin shop brand.
It costs $50.00 and usually lasts me about a month maybe a tad longer
GOOD STUFF!!!
