A few years ago while doing a national program for Chrysler Canada as well as Driver's Mart (folded into AutoNation later) Automotive International (ValuGard) put together a form for the detailers to use when a customer brings a vehicle in for a detail.
It has places for all the important customer information, a very complete "inspection of vehicle" set of areas to inspect and diagnois, and allows the detailer to go over the vehicle with the customer following the inspection.
It also has a "customer sign off" area.
This is a "tool" for several issues and provides an opportunity to educate the customer regarding the professional abilities of your company.
It should be used as a marketing tool, one that allows one to not only educate the customer but create "up-sell" of services the customer may never have considered or thought they needed.
It can be obtained for free in a PDF format when you contact Beth at Valugard.
Ask for the PrepExcellence Inspection Form.
    Beth's email is bethb@autoint.com
Hope this form may be of assistance to many detailers.

Several things it can do for a detailer, one is if they have a paint thickness guage and a 30X lighted magnifier.
When you look at the form, there are places for mil readings to be written, find some that are under the rest or way over the rest and then show the customer that the clear is too thin or it's had a repair and a detailer can not make that refinish always match, it's was the painter that did that.
Same with areas, go over each with the customer so they know what may be a problem on the vehicles.
It's just like a lawyer, doctor, accountant, or a automotive service shop does and people have been conditioned to expect and accept that sort of professional approach to them.

She isn't going to mind the bombarding of emails on this?

Just don't want to bug someone.

Nope, Beth is a gung hoo with the company and a real jewel, just be nice, and she will be happy to get you what you require.
I remember when I first went there, and she was only a month or so in front of me.
My joining of the company was around early spring of 96, after I resigned from Finish Kare, and she didn't know one end of a computer from another, nothing about the business, but a very dedicated person and after all these years, still a great lady.
Will have been retired for 4 years the end of Aug and two people I miss not seeing everyday I was in the corp. office, (which due to what I did, was not all that often) are Beth and Tim.
