Is it a wise idea to leave fliers on people's hoods?

I was considering leaving fliers on people's hoods even if I'm dropping them off at their house. Do you think this is a wise idea? Are people usually annoyed when they have to reach over to remove the flier? Or are they more likely to respond since they are in their vehicle and are more conscious about its cleanliness?

No. Find a different way to market your services. Your rate of return will be next to nothing anyways.

Re: Is it a wise idea to leave fliers on people's hoods?

When doing something like that I always like to ask myself "If this was done to me how would I respond??" flyers on the hood for me = 100% of the time in the trash without even looking at it. I would find it more annoying than anything and wouldn't even bother looking at thing. Now if you handed it to me personally I would more than likely at least look at it to see if it interest me before I tossed it.

So the question is how would you react to such a marketing idea?

Re: Is it a wise idea to leave fliers on people's hoods?

I've had a good response with door hangers but I wouldn't try putting anything on anyone's car. Just as Jake feels i'd be annoyed if anyone put a flyer on my car. The other concern you need to worry about w/ leaving things on cars is that as people take them off the car and throw them on the ground it is litter, more importantly your litter, which the local authorities typically don't respond to well to.

If you go the door hanger/solicitation route make sure you get yourself a permit for solicitation from the police offices of the areas you plan to target.

I thought more about this and came up with this idea. If you're intent is to hand out flyers go to a car event (show, drag strip, concourse event, auction, etc etc etc) and hand them out personally there. Might have to clear it with event sponsors but I bet the ROI would be much greater with a personal touch rather than stalking some mall and annoying the crap out people that have little to no interest in what you do.

That about sums it up .
My personal-approaching of potential clients after seeing their vehicles parked in a lot is slow going, but I'd still rather have it like that, compared to littering the streets with literature for which 97% of people don't care.

I was leaving fliers at Auto Zone and actually got some pretty good customers from doing that. Recently I stopped doing it b/c a local car wash took my flier background and added their prices. Them scum bums!!

LOL

That's just jacked up!

If you're interested in starting a good old fashion war with them get some of their ex-customers to give a review of the services they got from that car wash. No doubt most of it will not be good. Post up those testimonials on your next flyer and make sure to give it to the manager. Ask him if the whole dirty tactics can end with your flyer. If not, you've got A LOT more testimonials that can go on the next 5 updated flyers.
