I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this is illegal. I'd suggest avoiding mailboxes.

Re: Cold Carding Parking Lots

^ I know for fact it's illegal. I would look into door hangers, or if you have a nicely printed price list, I've seen clear plastic bags with a hole in the top to slip around a door knob. That's not illegal, but I find it to be annoying when it happens to me.

Normally I toss these ads on the ground. If I want a quality detailer or service of any sort I will ask for referral. Word of mouth is always better and cost nothing.

Re: Cold Carding Parking Lots

I had some dip **** put a flyer on my truck and I called him and gave him a little peice of my mind.

My truck had some dust on it, and I could see where he leaned up against my truck and placed the flyer under my wind shield wiper. I was pissed off.

I think that is a poor marketing strategy.

Re: Cold Carding Parking Lots

I've done this to a few extraordinary classic cars I've come across. If you've got an interesting looking car placing a card in either of your passenger side doors (on the inside) may not be a bad idea. I have done this with my Cutlass and one of my customers who has four classic cars has put a card in both passenger doors of all his vehicles. Good, free advertising.

Re: Cold Carding Parking Lots

Placing flyers IN a mailbox is illegal but inbetween the flag and box itself is not. Also I believe the newspaper box is illegal as well.

Re: Cold Carding Parking Lots

sorry to say if i found a card/flyer on my z06 parked somewhere, I would instantly disregard it as "cheap".

It's been said before - just because I park my car in a public place does not mean I want a total stranger touching it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking your skills. You could be the most badass detailer in the area and do a perfect job, but that method of getting clients is going to more that likely get you the people that only want to spend 50-75 bucks.

Re: Cold Carding Parking Lots

I think in most places it is also illegal to bombard a parking lot with flyers.

I have done the "select high end car" post card drop and got about a 5% response.

Re: Cold Carding Parking Lots

Well its good to know that the One car card drop does get some results. While it might not make a huge difference I wouldnt be passing out flyers, just business cards.

Also, when you see someone walking to their car do you ever approach them and tell them what you do?

Re: Cold Carding Parking Lots

When I passed them out last spring/summer I think my prices were a bit high for my area. While we are rather wealth people in my area have no idea what mobile detailing is so the prices I charged is what scared them off I think. I have to find that sweet spot that gets me some solid business.
