How much are you guys paying for the websites?

I'm looking into making a website. Would this be the best marketing tool besides word of mouth? Here are my questions:

a) How much do you guys pay for the host?
b) How much do you pay to get on top of the list?
c) Do you use a certain software? For eg iWeb. I hate the HTML coding stuff.

Thanks!

Re: How much are you guys paying for the websites?

Mine is hosted at goddady... i have no complains... good support, good speed and price, you can get a website as low as 10 bucks... godaddy has a "website tonight" thingy i havent used but i suppose is something like using word... a visual editor... thats good for your average static page... if you are looking to make a forum, such as this site... there are places that take care of the programing for you but the design is very basic... if you want the whole thing good design, reliable forum etc etc, i do recommend hiring a pro...

Re: How much are you guys paying for the websites?

my web guy would have charged me 1200ish for mine.

I have had 300 sites and 100 sites made up...this current one blows those away!

hosting is through GoDaddy
dont pay to be on the top, it just happens to be that I am up there when you search certain things...I need to work on my SEO stuff with him though

Re: How much are you guys paying for the websites?

Just payed under 3 for new website, postcard and logo touchup. It should be up within the next month or so. Its all about having a guy who knows whats up with the latest SEO trends for getting your name at the top. Just remember, every dollar you put in should get you at least the same back.

So starting a website with GoDaddy is totally different from SEO? What do I have to do to get myself to the top of list of Google searches?

Question Re: How much are you guys paying for the websites?

Just to add my two cents..............I'd be interested in these questions, as well:

> Other experiences, not only with national/well advertised hosting firms (aka GoDaddy, etc.), but any other smaller regional or local hosts where service might be better/or their terms for included sites names & bundled design services might be better?

> Good designers/web business developers (wherever they are - since this is a "virtual" business world now)..........ones for business in general that can put together you logos, graphics, website design (both static page type/information & business transaction) plus help the start up of the site via web search engine optimization, etc..

Hope this will bring add'l info that may be useful to the original post, as well. Good referrals accepted!

Thx.

See ya.

yes, starting a website implies paying money for a domain name and hosting, building a website and launching it... the seo part (search engine optimization) is as easy as submitting you site to Google, and thats that, who here uses another search engine? and beside Google gets searched by the other search engines, so it will eventually get listed, the advice i can give you here is dont use meta (if you dont know what it is then good) don't repeat your terms like so (detailing detail detailer) these tends to "discourage" smart SE, get linked a lot, on forums friend websites facebook etc etc, the more pages pointing to yours, the better

Re: How much are you guys paying for the websites?

If you are on a budget, check out dreamhost, you can search google for a coupon and get some pretty cheap hosting. The reliablity is not stellar, but its pretty good, I've been using them for 3 years now.
