Detailing rig half-and-half detailed... ever seen it?

Hey Everyone,

I
m sure we've all thought about this at one point or another, but has anyone actually SEEN or driven a half-and-half display?

Got myself a beat-up '92 Astrovan for a temporary rig, and its actually in great shape for its mileage... but has been a company work-truck for the last 10 years... so VERY dirty inside & out.

Already cleaned the inside...about 25% anyway.. and I tried polishing a fender and of course, it came up beautifully.

Wondering if I should tape off half the truck and only do one side??? Or would I be best just to drive the best example of a '92 Astrovan with 300k on it?

Well I guess I just answered my own question, do it all! Always want to show the best to customers.... DUH

Ok might as well post this anyway

-Tyler

do it!!!! its great advertisement IMO! SHOWING the differences is better than TELLING the differences.

everytime I tell people I can make their car look better, they are like "oh it already looks good. But when I SHOW them, they are blown away!

Yeah, I think that sounds like a killer idea. wash the other side with brushes and dawn and no wax, your clean side the proper way.

I'd just make sure you label what you are doing so people driving on the dirty side of your van dont think that is and example of your work.

OK! I'm gonna do it!

This van is such a POS anyway I might as well make half of it shiny... Then while I'm getting my lettering printed I'll get some extras that say something like "Before" and "After" for the applicable sides....

This is gonna be awesome! Already did half the hood, and its night & day, especially because its BLACK!

Re: Detailing rig half-and-half detailed... ever seen it?

Here another thing to consider, normally you would think to tape the van right down the middle, splitting the drivers side and passenger side, but its easier for people to see a difference if the before and after are on the same side. If you tape it down the middle, they would have to walk around to the other side to see the difference. Also, think of when you are at a stop light...a person will be able to see the before and after all at once and it will have a bigger impact on them.

does that make sense??

Agreed. Do a top and bottom on the sides.

Re: Detailing rig half-and-half detailed... ever seen it?

After driving around a bit today... realized that I need to do something else... Half and half sides wouldn't work because nobody can see both sides at the same time...

Half and half on panels would just look wierd.

So I'm going to polish both sides completely, and half-and-half both the hood and the tailgate/hatch. That way it looks good while driving, but you can also demonstrate the difference polishing can make.

And its easier to label!

Re: Detailing rig half-and-half detailed... ever seen it?

wrong....its a POS van, why do you care what it looks like? Its going to look stupid with half and half hood anyway, make every panel a 1/2 and 1/2. its rolling advertisement if done right, not your DD! If it is your DD, then pick up another one!

I am looking for a free car from someone who just wants to get rid of one in semi good/bad shape that I can do this with and just leave it parked with some graphics on it. If I can drive it places, that would be all the more better. Its not something I am going to dump any money into...

I thought of this very same idea, I just don't have a junker vehicle/the funds to do it.
