Was that thing ever winter driven? It couldn't have been, it looks too minty. I have never seen or even heard of the 4WS on a Prelude, cool stuff!

Re: 1991 Prelude Si 4WS Engine Detail...

An '89 model was my very first new car. I loved that car to death. 5-speed, red too. Very nice job on this one.

Re: 1991 Prelude Si 4WS Engine Detail...

I don't know who the question is for but they just didn't make that many of them and being 16-17 years old I'm sure that a bunch of those that were made are gone or in poor condition. So yeah, rare.

I'd bet the farm that they're not 4WS Lude's.

I would have to agree there. I knew a guy in high school that had one of the 4WS models in yellow. It was an awesome car. Of all the years since he had that car, I may have seen maybe 4 or 5 more 4WS models in total. They were really rare cars new and have only gotten rarer over time. If you lived in some of the foreign markets, you could get an Accord with 4WS in the early 90's. They were really ahead of their time with this, and definitely way ahead of anyone putting it on a Chevy truck.

You and me both buddy! My next ride is an early 90's red NSX 5MT. I'm keeping a close eye on the market and you can get a decent condition one (with higher miles) for the high-$20's.

To my knowledge, I am the third owner, and the second owner (who had it since 2002) did not drive it in the winter. I cannot find any rust on the body or undercarriage. Now that the car is here in Arizona permanently, the car is not likely to ever rust out -- at least while it's under my ownership.

Glad you can relate! The styling is dated and the car is definitely "old school," but there's just something about that still makes it difficult to let go of.

Right you are. I don't have definitive production numbers (nobody has been able to source them yet) but the vast majority of 3rd generation Preludes were sold as either S (carbureted), Si, or Si ALB (anti-lock-brake) versions. The highest trim levels in 1990 and 1991 were the Si 4WS and the Si ALB. I guess most people opted for safety over corner-cutting ability . Interesting also to note that this car has NO cup holders and NO air bags.

I totally agree. It's a shame it never caught on like Honda hoped it would. Maybe it was too expensive to produce? Dunno.

I've gotten even a little more insane with this project over the last couple of days...

Scrubbed and painted (black) wheel wells -- can't really see it here.

Cleaned trunk.

Waxed around the trunk opening.

Waxed door jambs.

This is starting to get obsessive . LOL
