Acura Integra GSR...the black cars keep coming!

Here is a 2001 Acura Integra GSR, owned by a good friend of mine who had picked up the car a few months ago. The car was in absolutely mint condition from a mechanical perspective, but appearance-wise was another story. I drove the car with my friend a few weeks before I detailed it and was blown away at the performance for a car that has over 165xxx KMs. The previous owner sure kept the paint clean (didn’t need claying), but left behind some terrible swirls.

Before wash.

Process:
Wash with Meg’s GC via 2 bucket method + sheepskin
Dry with WW MF

And here is a little preview of what I was going to be dealing with…

So I pulled the car into the garage and went to work. I recently picked up a rotary and have been eager to keep learning how to use it, so I pulled it out and did the hood.

Process:
OC via orange pad @ 1200rpm

After 1 pass:

After another pass, it was clean and defect free. The owner specified that he would be getting the hood and front bumper repainted, so I focused more of my time to the rest of the car.

Driver’s side front fender:

During…

…worked it in a bit longer, then followed up with PO106ff to see what the result would be, and viola…

So now with some results that I am happy with, I proceeded to do the rest of the car. I PCed most of it and on the flat surfaces like the hood and roof, I did it with the rotary to get some more practice.

The rest of the After pictures are after compounding

Rest of car…

Passenger side fender preview:

Turned the car around and brought it back in the garage

After PO106ff

After final polishing, I did an IPA wipedown to get rid of any remaining oils from the menzerna. Following this, I applied opti-seal, and then #26.

FINALS
Unfortunately I did not get very good pictures of the car. Time and daylight was against me for this detail. These pictures were taken a day after the detail. I was on my way to get daylight pictures but got stuck in traffic coming out of downtown Toronto so I got there late. Here is the best I could do for the time I had…

I will be going over some spots again in the Spring before it's taken out of storage, and at that time I will be sure to get some better pictures.

I'd like to thank my good friend Naz for coming to help me in the final stages as I had a couple of severely bruised ribs and was making it hard to finish off the car! You da man! haha

Thanks for looking!

Kaval

car came out great, especially seeing what you had to start with. good work, how long did this process take you.. only reason I'm asking is because you had said you were some what new to the rotary, but it seems you caught on well.

Re: Acura Integra GSR...the black cars keep coming!

Thanks for the comments guys!
I've picked up very quickly on the rotary actually...after this car, I did an A4 with 100% rotary (for the correction that is). I really like using Menzerna stuff with the rotary

Looks amazing, especially considering the condition it was in and that you never got particularly aggressive with the pad/polish combo.

I agree 100%. I owned a 95 GSR, that car was a blast. I now own a 92 Legend Coupe 5sp that is just as fun.

Back on topic...

Great work on the car! I know how finicky that finish can be. Too bad you couldn't get some macro daylight shots, the blue flake in NBP (Nighthawk Black Pearl) really pops when it's polished out...

Smooth work, Kaval. I especially liked that picture of the car outside. It looks like a huge beam of light is going into the rear window. Beam me up, Scotty!
