First time using wool (4 pics)

I ordered an Edge/presta double sided green light cut wool and a double sided medium cut yellow wool. They ended up sending me a single sided green wool, not happy bout that at the moment. Anyways i wanted to use wool so bad i went ahead and used the yellow on half my brothers hood.

All i used was Optimum polish, yellow wool and then optimum polish with a blue 8" edge pad.

before:

Durring:

After:

Still some deeper marring, i didnt wanna get to aggresive since im new at wool but im sure i coulda removed all of it for sure.

All i can say is i wont ever use a foam cutting pads ever again

So wool cutting pads huh? I know some of the other members on here have used twisted wool before or lambswool, but had to follow with foam to get the holograms out. Was that the case with you, or did it not leave marring?

I agree 100% w/ you on this one. So how smooth does the edge system and wool feel to you?

Sorry to hear of your problems with the order.

Maybe you need some black wool for the deeper marring.

The green wool is worth the wait.

How many passes did you make with the yellow wool to get those results?

Glad to see that you liked the wool. Cutting is so fast and easy with wool.

I remember last year no one would believe me on my process. Now it's a craze going on here. Funny part is wool started the trend decades ago.

Next try some Presta Swirl remover and see how you like that.

I started in this business using wool and slowly stoped using it as more foam pads became available. I only was using wool for wet sanding projects.

Over two years ago I was at a ICWA show and was given a wool polishing pad. Since then I have been using this type of wool more and more. For me it really save time correcting paint.

I could never understand why people here were so afraid to use wool. Like it was the plague!

Re: First time using wool (4 pics)

That before photo showed a lot of marring ... big improvement.

Was that just one pass each of wool and foam pads using OP?

What speeds?

Re: First time using wool (4 pics)

I dont understand why people are afraid of wool, i just dont get why, its harmless as far as i can tell.

I used the wool up 1500rpm and just 1 pass. Then just for good measure i followed up with an 8" blue foam at ~1200.

I didnt see any marring after the wool though, i thought for sure it would be bad but it wasnt at all. Finished much better than any foam cutting pad ive ever used.

Re: First time using wool (4 pics)

If you run a search on "edge wool pads" look for some of my threads, they have all the info you need.

I do have a question though. When i got the OP spread out, all it took was one pass and the OP was basicly gone. Am i doing something wrong or is that how wool works? With foam i can work OP forever and a day easy.

Re: First time using wool (4 pics)

I too used to use wool back in the day and switched to foam. It was the twisted type and the cut was too aggressive for the clears that were coming out. I now have a LC wool polishing pad that works very well.

Coupe they do need to be loaded with polish, then you can cut back.
