Cool Today's Detail: Black 06 760Li Needing Some Love (LOTS OF PICS)

Today’s detail consisted of a 2006 BMW 760Li (V12!) with 9,600 miles in black. Well the car sits outside 24/7 has never been waxed, and has only gone to through quickie washes or dealer washes. The car had HEAVY contamination, moderate to heavy marring/swirls, and the worse acid rain etching I have seen on a car less then a year old. I was not able to remove the acid rain etching on the horizontal surfaces because it would require either a complete wet-sanding or total repaint. The owner didn’t want me to go through removing the acid rain etching, since she really didn’t notice them (but of course any autopian would).

Anyways the sun wasn’t being very nice today so all the before pics are under the halogen lights and camera flash in the garage.

Process:

Paint:

Wash exterior with Meg’s Gold Class.
Clayed with sonus clay and meg’s gold class with water mixture as lube.
Attempt one on removing etching from trunk lid:
Optimum polish with polish pad via rotary @ 1500 rpms. (nothing)
Attempt two: OHC with orange cut pad via rotary @1500 rpms (nada)
Attempt three: Hi Temp EC with yellow cut pad via rotary @1700rpms!!! (etching laughed at me at that point. )
Attempt Four: Menzerna Powergloss with yellow cut par via rotary @1700rpms! Etching basically slapped me on the face!) I gave up on the horizontal panels etching after that knowing they weren’t going anywhere!
Rest of the car’s horizontal panels: Hi-Temp EC/ RMG @1500rpms with orange cut pad
Vertical panels: Optimum OHC via polishing pad @ 1500rpms
Entire car then buffed Menzerna FPII via rotary @1000-1200 rpms with white polish pad.
Wiped down the exterior with Duragloss Aquawax
Applied Colinite IW845 for durability (and good looks too!)

Wheels: I hate BMW brake dust!
Meg’s Wheel brightner X 2 @ a 50/50 water dilution ratio!! Lucky the wheels cleared the calipers enough to get my hand and trusty meg’s wheel brush.
Re-washed wheels with Meg’s Gold Class to neutralize pH.
Wheel wells dressed with AA.

Interior: Normal to moderate dirt, stains, dusting.
EVERYTHING cleaned with woolite/water mix.
Carpets cleaned with oxy-pro/woolite (two canisters connected and bought in target) (WORKS AWESOME by the way) extracted with LGCM
Leather treated with Z10 and vinyl got 303

Total Process: 10 hours!

Before pics:
Clay bar after two panels!!!!!

This pic is the trunk lid...I think the light reflections are fuzzy because of the etching or my camera skills suck lol

Here is three pics of the interior. Sun was pretty much down when I finished the interior. These pics suck but since I took em I might as well post them.

Edited: I realized I posted two of the same interior pics which I now deleted.

As always questions or comments welcomed

Great turnaround! A detail like that doesn't need the sun to show it off!

BTW this is the same customer with the F430. Im going back to do a full detail on the Bentley C GT this Friday and then the following Monday, I detailing their Range Rover. They also have an Escalade but that's the beater truck and they arent worried about that one getting messed up. Can you tell they are car people! One of the nicest customers I have ever had though!

Next time try to kick up the speed with HTEC up to 2200-2300 and a FAIR amount of pressure! I've done a dark blue Toyota Yaris with an extremely hard repaint. This was the only solution. The panels were steaming hot but the defects came out and the film build was pretty much intact.

Thumbs up

Great work Chris, hard to believe that car is less than a year old. Really shameful that these "car" people would take such poor car of a 760Li. I guess this may be a case of more money than brains or they don't care. Why would you leave such a machine like this outside 24/7. Ok, I have to go cry now...
