2001 z06 Corvette Detail

Hello everyone. I did this detail for a member on the corvette forum. I would like to thank gmblack3 for the referal. Travel time on this one was about 2 hours both ways (I got a little lost lol) but I was happy to make the trek.

This corvette fought me the entire day and I still was only able to get it about 90-95% perfect. I talked to Sean about this the day before he did his first corvette. His finding were the exact same as mine. I had trouble minimizing the holograms, and have from the more aggressive polishes. So i couldnt get it totally perfect and that bothered me but I know it was many times better than when I started.

My process was as follows:

-Clean dust off with FK1 #425
-Meguiars Mild clay #425 as lube
-HTEC/OPT polish 50-50 via meguiars cutting pad (tight areas) and LC orange light cut on flatter areas @ 1700 (HARD CLEAR!!)
-To cut some of the holograms the only combo I could get to work was OCP via orange light cut @6 on PC
-To cut the haze left from the OCP and light cut I used menzerna po85rd via finishing pad @1500
-THe po85rd which usually finishes flawlessly still left some light hazing and holo's so I then found out that super slow passes with po85rd and finishing pad @900 does the trick. This combo still left a tiny amount of haze but after trying many combos during the day I knew this was as good as it was going to get.
-Z6 wipedown
-Z5pro zfx'd and z8'd, let sit for 30 mintues, buff off on wheels, paint and glass.
-Z8 on wheels paint and glass

-Z16 on tires and trim
-Meguiars Hyper Dressing in wheels
-OCW on rear chrome plate
-#00000 steel wool on exhaust, then ocw

I learned a lesson from this and that is that corvette clear is the most difficult paint I have worked on thus far. I had to keep my cool during this one and really think of which pad/product/speed would yeild the best results.

The entire detail was done under my pop tent but as 2-3 pm rolled around the right side of the car and eventually trunk and hood got a nice shot of warm sunlight.

The object protruding into some of the L+R of the pics is a lens hood. I didnt have time to edit it out, also didnt have time to do borders. I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Questions/Comments?

Greg

Greg, Glad I could get you hooked up. When I see someone over on the Corvette forum in need of a good detailer I know that I can always find someone here on autopia.

The Z06 came out excellent, your effort really paid off.
