That car may be a "Collector's Editon", but I wouldn't be caught dead in that car, if I was going to "collect" one it would be '78 T/A, a ('81?) turbo, or something in the mid-80's to mid-90's, before they messed up the nose. I remember looking at a used '95 or so Formula about 10 years ago (which had the same powertrain as the T/A without the "give me a ticket" look)...not that I would buy anything like that now (or then, really).
Sorry for the threadjack and trip down memory lane, looks like you did a real nice job on that thing. Tell your friend he should put some shoes on, the sandals don't really go with the image he's hoping that car will give him...

One man's trash...
I personally think the 80s were the low point for the Firebird. The 98-02 models are right up there with the 67-69 and 70-74 models. GMMG did a hell of a job with the CE models, but the Carl Black Blackbird CE looks much better. And the 99 30th looks even better. Only thing that saved the 3rd gen on the Pontiac side was the TT/A.
But I digress. Those things can effing fly, I'll tell you that.

Well, I have a soft spot for the '82 'birds. A story I've told here before, fall '81, my friend and I are pulling out onto a local highway lined with car dealers, restaurants, stores, etc. We see this swoopy looking red car drive by...what kinda car was that?? Must be some new Ferrari! We chase after it, only to catch up with it as it's turning into...the GM training center. Turns out to be an '82 Firebird. I think I really liked the Camaro better in '82, but the Firebird succeeded in being such a departure it didn't even look like it was from GM.
As far as the 80's being the low point, I've really lost track of the evolution (happens when you reach my age), but I can tell you that the guy who owned the gas station who was selling that mid-90's Formula (5.7, 6-spd) told me he had taken it on a trip and it was the fastest car he had ever driven, and he's driven a lot.

I never was fond of trans ams, until now, and im still not that impressed with them, good horsepower for the money and decent design, I love the interior layout, I could live in a trans am, seat recline all the way back and contour to your body type, and I love the two cup holders, its the little things you like in cars, my corvette only has one sucks when you go on a date, your nuts freeze from trying to hold a cup there while driving.

Being so young I havent ever drove any of sport car besides 97 and up, most of my sport cars I detail come from my friends, and there parents, Im hopefully going to detail a new z06 shortly. So I have a bias opinion about the best trans am/firebirds

Sheesh, where do I start with that...sometimes a little ice in that area is a good thing, on a date? Or have her hold the cup, and the nuts...
