99 FRC Vette

i had the oppurtunity to detail a vette this week, so he brought it over sunday. it seems like the mroe i do this, the worse the cars get. well, this one was by far the worst i have done, and you will agree when you see the pics. apparently whoever painted this car took scotch brite or soemthin to it when they tried to wetsand it, idk its all i can make it out to be. it wasnt sanding marks really....just looked like it had been washed with scotch brite, literally. the paint was only 3 months old and looks TERRIBLE.

this one took about 11 hours, heres the process...

-degrease with dawn
-wouldve clayed the car, but the paint is new and didnt feel like it needed it
-Meguiars 105 compound and edge wool pad (took about 3 hours to compound, it was a mess)
-pad was edge double sided that comes with the system one kit
-Meguiars 205 finishing polish on edge finishing pad
-Meguiars #26 yellow wax X 2
-polished tips with ooo steel wool and mothers mag polish
-regular interior cleaning, as well as wheel wells, inner wheels, all that.
-tires dressed with Prime Shine Extra

the paint didnt turn out 100%.....nor did i expect it. the owner thought he was going to have to get it painted again, and he was estatic! i felt real good about this detail, since ive only been doing it as side work since january.

Re: 99 FRC Vette

heck.....i learned you dont get what you pay for with tires. my riken raptors ($132 a piece in 275/35/18) outperformed, outlasted the higher end michelin, pirelli, etc tires.

i sell tires for a living. not a fan of the raptors. i live in pa and those tires dont work around here to well. did you know that they are not m&s rated? they would be"ok" for summer driving only.

Re: 99 FRC Vette

that vette was in terrible shape. How can people allow their cars to get like that? I guess that just means more work for all of us.

Very nice turn around on the car.

Re: 99 FRC Vette

this is how the vette came BACK from the paint shop....the owner just didnt have the balls i guess to get it fixed...it was an $800 paint job. i dont know HOW it ended up like this....it looks like they tried to wetsand it with random circular motions instead of a consistent pattern..and just tried to fill it in with wax instead of actuallly buffing it.

it was a LOT worse in person than in the pics too. this was also single stage paint too, as you can tell from my pad color that STARTED as white.

lol.....nice cars around here arent driven in the snow or ice, period. at least not mine. the tires had 20,000 HARD miles on them when i sold them, and over half of the tread was stilll on it after i measured. i was impressed, at least for a tire that was half the price as the others, and hook vey well for a non-sticky tire.
