I own a Pontiac G5 since 2005 (well, it's actually a Pursuit, not a G5) and I still love it like day one. I did not have any major issue with it in 70 000 km. It is just like your Cobalt, same rims, but I don't have the sunroof, no Pioneer and it is black.
Must feel like a downgrade coming from a GTI though.

Cheaper on fuel
Cheaper maintenance
My girlfriend can drive it (auto)
I already have my toy (turbo buick)
bunch of reasons.

Well, he did mention employee discount. That definitely sweetens the deal. $300 a month cheaper?! That sounds like a no brainer. Even if it only lasts two years, $300 a month for two years is a nice down payment on a new car and with GM Employee discount, he can get another GM at a great deal.
Nice job on the car though. It looks great. Souveran rules doesn't it? It's almost ridiculous it's so easy to use too.

I don't know if you'd be interested in this sort of thing, but I'd recommend getting a set of stock springs off the SS Supercharged or new SS Turbocharged. It's not much of a drop but it helps fix the factory wheel gap especially in the rear.

Oh, and just a heads up, your going to absolutely hate the lip where the trunk meets the bumper. Even after a day of driving on clean roads, the whole car will be clean, but that lip will be always have a nice coat of dust/dirt on it

Our family has had a number of Ecotec-powered cars now and the motors(and the cars themselves really) have been SO reliable.
