Make It Shine: Acura 1.6EL Importfest Detail

Hey everyone!

Just trying to catch up with some posting. I detailed this vehicle for Importfest on May 9th and thought I'd share. As some of you know I have a soft spot for ELs and am itching to get one soon. Working on one tastefully done made it all the more fun and chatting with the owner and being entertained by his wonderful son made time go by nicely.

This car is barely driven so the paint was in fairly good condition (130,000kms) with moderate contamination and swirling that is expected. Almost always garage stored, but moderate contamination due to the fact that it had never been detailed in its 9-10 year life.

I stepped it up for this detail and I wanted to achieve a good combination of wetness and metallic pop so it could really stand out at the show. Knowing other's were going to be analyzing the car I wanted to make sure I had covered every area I could think of more than 3 times.

Process:
- Wash w/ Sheepskin Wool Mitts + Optimum Car Wash
- Dry with WW MFs
- Rims carefully cleaned inside and out. Calipers cleaned with small brushes and remaining car wash soap.
- Clay w/ Riccardo Clay + ONR Diluted to Clay lube
- Dried with WW MFs
- IPA wipedown

I decided to go with SIP on a white pad via rotary. I have had excellent results with this combination and it did not let me down. For the carbon fiber hood, I had to step up the speed to 1800rpm as the clear was much harder than the original Honda paint on the rest of the car. With that said, the remainder of the car was done at 1600rpm.

Following SIP, an IPA wipedown was performed and I pulled out the Klasse Twins to use for the first time. Time was getting tight as the owner had to leave for roll-in, but I really wanted to try the twins out. Following the IPA wipedown, KAIO was applied on a blue Sonus pad via PC, to the entire car including headlights, window visors and rear duckbill. Final sealing was done with Klasse SG.

Exhaust tip, tow hooks, and polished lettering on the Spoon calipers were hand polished with TW Platinum and a microfiber towel.
Tires dressed with EO. Interior vacuumed, wiped down, dressed and windows cleaned with IG.

The owner made it to roll-in just in time, so everything worked out nicely in the end.

Pictures were edited for watermark, border and some under exposed shots. I photoshopped the picture of the full front looking up as I felt it was a nice shot that could be somewhat saved.

Pictures:

I'm thoroughly impressed with the Klasse Twins. I really like the cleaning ability of KAIO, and when used together as a set with SG, it produces a very fluid, wet, and somewhat hard look, especially on the carbon fibre portions of the vehicle. This will definitely be something I use a lot more. Might have to let Poli-Seal and Opti-Seal have a seat for a while :P haha

Thank you for taking the time to look. Comments, questions, criticisms, etc., are welcomed.

Kaval

Thanks Tyler! I've been unable to post new threads in the C&B section for some time. I gave up a while ago but decided to try again today and it worked

I agree with taking pictures. It definitely gives a more true display in some sense of the way the car looks afterwards. The Klasse Twins is definitely an awesome product!

Great job. I really like how you worked on it and how the car was modified. Not so hot for the color though. I think it'd look a lot better if it were Nighthawk black or Championship White but that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the comments!

It's called the Honda Domani in Japan. Also sold as the Isuzu Gemini.

The rear lights are the same as the ones in the Accord of the same year that came out.
