Wink My First Click & Brag... Kind of...

So yesterday I was a little bothered by the condition of our shower doors in one of the bathrooms at my parents house. So, instead of polishing cars... Yeah, you guessed it, I polished the shower doors. They were pretty nasty and you could hardly see through them at all. Anyway, my process was as follows:
  • Started with the PC and a Propel 7" green polishing foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5
  • Moved up to a Propel 7" yellow cutting foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5
  • After realizing that my process wasn't cutting fast enough, I moved up to an Excel Erasure 4" green polishing foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5
  • Again moved up to something stronger, an Excel Erasure 4" white polishing foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5
  • Yet again moved to something stronger, Excel Erasure 4" yellow cutting foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5
  • I really still wasn't satisfied so I tried the Metabo and the LC PFW with SIP, M105, and M105/OC 75/25 mixture as separate applications. Unfortunately, they were all too grabby on the glass.
  • So in the end, my process came down to using the PC and the Excel Erasure 4" yellow cutting foam pad and PB's SSR 2.5.
  • Finished the glass with the PC and a LC 6.5" blue finishing pad and PB's SSR 1
  • Protected the glass with one application of Optimum Car Wax

The entire process took quite some time. I started in the morning at about 9:30am or so and didn't finish until 4:30pm or so. Keep in mind that I took a few breaks to rest, read Autopia and DB forums, eat lunch and snacked/drank to feed/hydrate myself.

The results were by no means to our standards but it was DEFINITELY better than what it looked like before. :headbang:

Half-Half Shots

After Shots!

Oh, I also did Automotive Prep Clean wipe downs every once in a while during the entire process. More importantly, I did a final wipe down right before the application of OCW. This was purchased from NAPA Auto Parts for around $7.xx.

The outside glass was cleaned with some other brand of glass cleaner I found under one of the bathroom sinks. It worked pretty well IMO.

Please forgive me for the blurry pictures. I need to work on my point-and-shoot skills hehe.

Your folks need to get a water softener. Even though I have one, I still squeegee the doors down before I get out.

Also, the lysol tub and basin will probably cut down the grime faster. Try detailing your washing machine . That's always fun.

LOL pretty unique detailing job you did there!

GREAT results though....those were some really nasty water spots and the 50/50 shots are impressive!

I'd love to have clear shower doors for when the wife's taking a shower

Re: My First Click & Brag... Kind of...

I thought I was nuts when I clayed my sink to get this crap from my wifes dermal abrasion kit that had bonded to it. She was like "oh maybe this stuff does come in handy....".

Re: My First Click & Brag... Kind of...

That's funny, I recently did the same thing to our shower doors... plexiglass. Just started fooling around with a DeWalt cordless drill and the little pads that come in the Diamondite headlight kit. I tried Megs Step 2 Deep Crystal Polish, Janvil Light Duty Plastic Scratch Remover and Stoner Invisible Glass. Then I applied a coat of Megs NXT 2.0.

Worked great! I buffed up the aluminum frame while I was at it. The doors look better than new.

Re: My First Click & Brag... Kind of...

Hehe, my parents were impressed. We do have a water softener but it can only do so much and I didn't see any sense in scrubbing by hand if I could do it by machine.

I just thought it was a side project I would share with you all, hehe. The 50/50 shots are always my favorite!

I'd love to be able to take my UDM to my swirled white Apple iBook. But I fear it would probably ruin it.
