Black Nissan 350z

Hello !!
This weekend I detailed an amazing 350z solid black. Some before pics:

Just medium swirls :

The hood, in carbon fiber, also had swirls:

The roof was in better shape:

After cleaning wheels and wheels wells. In the shade, the car looked amazing:

After claying, I started polishing the hood. I used Menzerna Final Finish PO85RE5 and blue Propel Advanced with my Metabo:

Is not easy taking 50/50 in carbon fiber:

I applied Collinite 845 to the hodd looking for the maximum protection:

Finished:

I polished the mirrors with Einszett Chrome and Metal Polish and Wolfgang applicator:

The surprise:

I decided in that point that I should remove the swirls but not trying to remove the random scratches. I used Propel pads and 3m Fast Cut Plus and Menzerna 85RE5. After that, I applied Prima Amigo and Zymöl Glasur.

Re: Black Nissan 350z

Well, I polished the hood with a soft pad (blue Propel 2) and a finishing polish (Menzerna PE85RE5) via rotary and then I checked the state, wich was nice. This combo don't produce too much hot, and the finish was great and hologram free. I didn't put any pressure at all. It was the first time that I polished carbon fiber via rotary. A long time ago I polished carbon fiber in this Celica via PC:

and I also liked the results.

Re: Black Nissan 350z

Thanks Rick !!
Prima Amigo is a nice product. Is a glaze with some cleaning abilities, some filling, nice finish and is very easy to apply and remove. As this clear coat was very soft, I wanted a product easy to remove because I don't wanted to incorporate marring to the paint.

Re: Black Nissan 350z

Thanks maesal.

Have you used any of the other Prima products? If so, how do you like them?

Did this car have factory paint, or is it a repaint?

I know the factory paint is very difficult to work with on these cars. Very soft.

Re: Black Nissan 350z

Yes, I used Prima Cut and is nice, not my preferred but yes, is nice.
It had 2 repainted panels, but the painter did a great job, very low orange peel. Yes, is not the easiest clear coat to work with, but finishing with soft pad and a final finish produces a great finish alwasys and hologram free.

Re: Black Nissan 350z

I really like the final shots! WOW

I was impressed with the photos switching between befores and afters, how did you create that effect?

Comments much appreciated
Ok, I'll try to explain how I create this animated gifs. Sorry about my english
I have 2 pics, one from the before and another from the after. I open them in Photoshop (Elements, version 5, easier than CS2 and CS3 for this purpose) and I put the number 1 in the before pic and the number 2 in the after pic. In each pic, I combine the 2 layers, 1 layer is the original pic and the other is the number. After that, having both images opened in cascade, I drag the pic 2 over the 1. Then I go to file -> save for web and I press animate and I put 2 seconds in the retard.
Regards !!

Re: Black Nissan 350z

Nice work on the Z.

Random question, but I see you used a paint gauge...does polishing remove a lot of the clear coat, or is it very minimal?
