Yes I will be at the HB Concours.

My preparation has just been complicated because of a leaking oil sensor. I think it was damaged during judging

Assuming it can be fixed I will be competing. I will also be judging in the Porsche section.

Bummer on the leak, at least you've isolated it and hopefully can get it fixed before next week.

I will be showing as well, I will be in Class13 German Vehicles.

As a judge can you give me a few hints on how to properly prep my car?

Here is what I've done so far:
Completely detailing the interior including carpets, leather, glass, vinyl, wood trim and plastics. I've also replaced my brake/gas pedal rubber.

I've cleaned the door jambs, including the bottom portion of the door and removed any grease.

I've detailed the trunk including rubber gasketing, carpet, spare tire, battery and rear lights.

I've cleaned the engine the best I can, there are many areas that my hand just can't get into, does this matter? They would only be visible with a flashlight BTW.

I had the undercarriage steam cleaned and finished it with Griots undercarriage. I've completely detailed the wheel wells, does this even matter in street class?

How do you judge a car, do you use the "white glove" test frequently? Is it mainly visual or eo you open things (or have the owner do this)?

Apologies for all the questions, I don't have nearly as much experience as you do.

You look like you have a good handle on what to do.

Preping the car the days/weeks before is about 50% of it......and you look like you have that under control. The other 50% of the it is what you do on the day....your car will get dirty just going to the event. Hell the car will get dirty by just opening it up for judging....all you need is a spec of lint to blow in and land on the carpet and its a 0.1 deduction (often the difference between winning and losing).

So here are some answers from a Porsche perspective:

1. Judges can use a torch, but in my experience they don't
2. In the engine, they will mark you down if they see dirt or can touch it. Normally its a case of reaching deep into the engine and removing their hand to inspect it for dirty or grease. You need to check the underside of every pipe, hose and wire....thats where they will get you.
3. In PCA they are not allowed to use white gloves
4. In PCA Street class they judge - inside, outside, trunks and engine. Wheel wells are not judged, nor is the suspension.
5. Also its just the front surface of the tire and alloy that is judged, but most competitors clean the alloy inside and out fully anyway. You need to work out how you are going to clean the brake dust off the alloy once you get to HB. Don't forget to clean the dust from the lug nuts and off the tire surface as well.

I am fortunate to have a great support team! Especially one with small hands...great for cleaning the inside of alloys
