Radar detector for under $100

Since we got our new car, my mother took my cordless radar detector from me and told me to get a new one. I really dont need it except for the trips to wrightsville beach and back and forth to school. So nothing fancy. My budget is 100 dollars. Like I said, I just need something simple. If you guys could chime in on what kinda sub-100 dollar radar detectors are good, that would be great.

I got my wife this BEL last Christmas... http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=family

When I got it is was at $80-$100 I believe, so at $60, it's a rockin deal. I read a test somewhere of detectors $100 and below and this BEL was chosen as being head and shoulders better than the rest at that price point and even better than some costing much more. It works excellent for basic detection purposes, but keep in mind that at this price point, the feature set is rather limited. Can't beat it at this price though!

Man ive been wanting a radar dector for the longest but no $$$ 4 it..... i know if i were to by a lower end i would regret it again some have said the higher ends maybe more prefernce or feature they all beep and alert but some r more sensitive then others...i have never owned one...ill get one eventually...i personal dont know anyone who has one...but those who have commented on radar dectors online swear by them....one thing i notice if i buy a radar dector especially i high end on they retain there value and you can sell them easily....good luck

I used to have a cheapie Whistler 1783, worked great until I bought my Escort 8500. Its great if you do a consistent 10ish over, if you're gonna do 15-20 the range of the 8500 is well worth the extra cash.

I was in the same boat as you about 9 months ago, I was still in school and wanted a good detectro but didn't have the money. So, I just kept looking on ebay and one day I found one that I wanted. I picked up a barely used K40 RD850 for about $120 after shipping (the only portable one that K40 makes). It is a great radar/laser detector which goes for about $400 new and it has saved my skin several times. I highly recommend it. Just keep checking ebay and you will come across some great deals.

Smile

For 100.00 you'll be lucky to get one that doesn't false a lot. Stay away from the department store ones that come plastic bubble packed (like Cobras). You're best bet would probably be a BELtronics, but I don't know what they have at that price point, but at least it would be a good one
