Dye, tint, change color of Vinyl Interior Panels

I have a client who is putting the finishing touches on one of his daily driver/ project cars. He would like to refinish the two rear interior panels rather than replace them with a darker color. Cost of replacement would run in the $500+ range.

What are some products that he could use to darken the panels to match? Mind you, looking for a moderately high quality fit and finish here. Thanks for any assistance. . .

If it's normal ABS/plastic/vinyl, you might check your Yellow Pages for "vinyl repair" in your area. Many years ago I had an a-pillar gauge pod color matched to my trim by "Dr. Vinyl", a vinyl repair place here in Omaha (they fix/re-dye seats, dashboards, etc.). I gave them my a-pillar trim and the pod in the morning, and picked it up in the afternoon with a great color match.

If you want to try the DIY route, start Googling for vinyl dyes . . . I've seen it in rattle cans just like paint (and from what I've read they're pretty easy to use). The biggest problem you'll probably run into is trying to find an exact color match.

I had a friend who restored a 77 Corvette and bought all the interior panels used so they where all different colors. I used a local shop for the vinyl paint/dye and it came out perfect. To this day it still looks like a brand new interior at this was done about 8 years ago. I just told them the year of the Vette and the color and they matched it dead on to what it was stock. Not sure if they ship or anything but you might want to try them.

SEM color coat is the diy way to go. vinylpro.com will even color match it for you. I just used them for a 62 t-bird and it came out dead on.

I've used spray cans of dye from supplier called "Bloomco", I'm not sure on the brand though, sorry. I managed to find a near-perfect match for my tan interior... after trying out about 3 different colors :P
