Car best for insurance (minor driver)

All this talk of detailing really does make a boy itch for his liscense. I am getting my liscense next year and looking at all these nice cars you guys detail and everything it really does make me want an audi. My cousin is the top audi salesmen in the country so i could get one for a good deal. The only problom with me getting one is insurance. Would an A4 be a smart decision for me to get (insurance wise). The only reason we are even considering me keeping my porsches are 1. they are registered under my dads name and 2. they are insured as antiques. I was just wondering what car would insurance companies not frown on me having (other then a 1988 cutlass supreme or something).

Also this is just a random idea i was thinking about involving insurance. Wouldnt it be smarter for the car manufacterers to offer insurance because they get the parts cheaper then anyone else.

Audi's are definitely not cheap on insurance, that is what the deal breaker always was for me. (Note this was when my driving record wasn't the greatest, but compared to other cars it was still higher) I would look at something like a Honda or a domestic.

As for car manufacturers offering insurance, they're in the business to make cars not insure them..They could care less what you do with the car after it is off their lot. Car insurance is based on alot more than just the pricing of parts, since you are a minor it will be more for you given your limited driving experience and how much of a liability you are. Don't get me wrong cost of parts does play a role, but there are other determining factors....I would shop around for car insurance. Like I said, I didn't have the cleanest record but my tickets have been dropping off...I had my insurance re-evaluated to see if I could get it cheaper through another company and it went from $250 a month to $130 a month for full coverage.

I'd agree with Joshua312. Sadly, the typically "boring" cars are the cheapest to insure. Since you are just getting your license, get something like a Cobalt or Civic or something and wait until you have a steady sizable income to get something cool. Believe me, I am in college and I keep Porsches, BMWs, etc as my desktop wallpapers to keep me motivated LOL. Plus, whenever I see some young kid in an insanely expensive car, I have very little respect for them because I know more than likely the parents funded it. I'm not trying to rant or anything, this just seems to be a question that comes up on this forum very often....

That's funny. My wife's A4 was only $5 more a month to insure than my Jetta. My jetta was a 2.0 and the Audi was a 1.8Turbo.

Then again, we are talking about someone who is just getting their license. Any car is going to cost more.

The best thing to do would be to get added to your father's insurance and have him co-sign on the car. It isn't going to make as much of a difference in insurance price based on the car then.

Of course, all of this depends on the insurance company, where you live and your situation. Sometimes the type of car makes a huge difference and in some cases, the type of car really doesn't make a difference.

Some people are just more fortunate. Doesn't make any less of a respectful person just because they drive a $50K+ car at 16. Their attitude about it make them more or less of a respectful person. Dude, if you can afford the A4, go for it. Just respect the car and take care of it. Check around for the best insurace for a car like that and also see what it would be for a type of car like the Civic SI or something. Make your decision then.

'^^ I agree. I mean I\'m 21 and drive a G35 (not $50k+, but still), but that\'s because I busted my butt in HS and got intoa good college with a full-scholarship. I worked for several summers and my folks chipped in several $K and I got the car. Plus, I\'m very frugal when it comes to everythign else (don\'t go out to eat, don\'t buy expensive clothes, etc.)\r\n\r\nAs far as cheap insurance, I looked online at a list of top 10 leaste pensive cars to insure, and I believe a ford taurus was at the bottom of the list.'

Yea i think my dad already has it planned out about the insurance actually. He sais that our insurance plans are done by this military based company or something. He said it was only oferred to officers in the military. I dont know anymore about the company. The only problom about going for it and just buying the audi is my dad doesnt support it.

i would agree, man, my brother-in-law had a BMer Z3 bc he had the means to pay for it, not his parents...i can't talk tho, my car my parents bought, it's no Audi, but it's still a car of some kind...

I don't want to retract my last statement, but I guess I will clarify. My car was originally owned by my parents and I am extremely grateful to have it. My main issue is with kids who think they should create a wishlist of cars to spend the money which their parents have worked so hard to earn. In other words, just be grateful for what you have or get. I do enjoy looking at SRT8s, Chargers, Porsches, etc. but never in a million years would I want my parents to buy one for me. I would feel guilty actually.

Once again, I couldn't agree more...I am on the same page as you on this topic. I remember kids in my highschool who had their parents buy their car...and too see them beat the heck out of it and trash it just makes me sick. If my parents bought me a car I would treat it like a million bucks....because let's face it - Not having a car payment would be a burden off my shoulders.

Something like a Corolla would be a lot cheaper to insure. My son saved up $6000 over two years, put $4000 down on a 2007 Corolla and finance the rest. He averages 35 mpg and his insurance is very reasonable for him only being 18. He had thought about a Mini but the insurance was more, so was cost of ownership and it was very important to him that he be able to fully afford his own car.

Get a 04 GTO insurance is fairly cheap on them. I had a Mazda 3 160hp and really slow. Insurance went up like $15 a month when I bought the GTO. Cheap insurance and 350hp stock. Either way you look at it insurance will suck at your age. Until you hit 25.
