I go to a private school or a so called "rich kid school" where it is normal for kids to get there cars when theyre 15.5 (age to get permit). Even if my parents did have enouph money to buy me a very nice car paid for in cash, i wouldnt let them because i wouldnt want them being able to hold that over my head. For instance, one girl 2 years ago got a brand new bmw z4, ever siince it has had a heck of a lot of scuffs and scraches and many more things that make me cringe. Last year she got into a minor accident and she thought the car wasnt good enouph for her after that, so she made her dad buy her another new car.

But yea i see what you are saying about insurance is going to suck anyway you put it. And if its going to be just 15 or 20 dollars more then screw it ile go and put my down payment on that audi right when i turn 16 lol. I think what my dad is going to say is i have to pay for everything and if i can put it down on paper that i can support my "living" then i can do whatever i want.

I''m sorry to be pessimistic but everyone I knew in HS who owned an expensive car(entire parking lot looked like a BMW/Mercedes dealership) didn't do jack **** for it financially. It was all paid for by mommy and daddy which I don't really care. It just makes me jealous because I'm not in the same situation... :P
If you are paying for your insurance and the car, I would get a Grand Marquis or Crown Victoria or older Lincoln Town Car. Those things are dirt cheap from what I hear.

lets just say that i do a hell of a lot more then jack sh!t for what i have. And even though i would be grateful for what i would have even if i had any of the cars you mentioned, my family as do i (not meaning to be "spoiled") think that i deserve a lot more then that when it comes to cars for the sole reason that i have saved and cut back on every single expense for around 4 years to save for my car. Now how many 14 year olds can say they have over 22 grand in assets that have earned and invested correctly.

Judging by your screen name "poweredbytorque" you own some sort of american car, probobly a muscle car or something like it. And you enjoy american cars emensely (which is not a bad thing, its an opinion), however i cannot ever see myself in an american car due to the fact that i do not trust them (especially older ones). I would rather like a '89 VW GTI... similar to the one in my backyard that would need to be restored to drive. But i would rather like a newer car that is more reliable because in a few years i will be going to college and will need a reliable car to comute back and forth to my home town and college town.

A lincoln towncar was even thrown into my options by poweredbytorque (thanks btw). Even though i probobly pissed some people off here by making them feel like im blowing off their thoughts, every thought is contributing to my end result and conclusion. Which after it is all done, there will be a picture up here showing it off under the "click and brag" section because i am going to make darn sure i brag about my car... even if it is a dreaded crown vic. And it will look just like it did after it did when it was on that truck being delivered to the dealership. Anyway thanks guys for all your help! And thanks joshua for for making me realize what an azz i was being. BTW i like your name (joshua), its my middle name! ... btw is there any chance you are jewish? because joshua is a jewish name... and im jewish. just wondering

I'm sorry to tell you, but American cars are now more reliable than German cars in most cases. If you honestly care about reliability and not having the car break down, then you'll end up in a Toyota or a Honda.

Although it seems far away right now, college isn't too distant. Regardless of whether or not you get a scholarship (I got a large scholarship to the university I am attending), college is expensive. I was about ready to sign the papers on either a Scion tC or a Dodge Caliber about a year and a half ago. I am now extremely happy that I do not have that additional obligation, so I am able to rely on money I had saved for my basic living expenses and concentrate on my classes. Since it sounds like you take pride in being fiscally responsible, I think you would agree that spending around $20K on an unneeded luxury is a bad decision. If you can't find a good deal in the auto trader, I would go to some police/government auctions. I have seen some very good deals come out of those. Clean up the exterior (since you already have the knowledge from Autopia), buy a Chilton's, and learn to do some basic maintenance.

And yea i have had bad experiances with american cars. Mostly ford though. We have rented 3 ford explorers and every single one had broken down about 30-100 miles into the trip. which completely ruined our trips so therefor i guess i am holding a grudge. And yes i do agree that the newer American cars are getting more reliable. And it doesnt hurt that the most recent race i went to a cobalt just took off the 2nd lap.

I would be more peeved with the rental company than Ford, obviously those vehicles were not very well cared for.
