Yeah today sucks....

So last week I finally broke down and purchased a 2 door 2007 Jeep green Wrangler. Today, roughly 45 minutes ago we were just hit by a pretty good size storm, with golf ball size hail. When the storm finally let up I took the jeep down to the local car wash where I could see the car and my hood is covered in dents. And to top it all off my backing plate and pads arrived from AutoGeek today.....

Anyone have any experience with hail damage? And what to expect as far as repairs go? All the dents are smaller then a dime and they all seem to be on the flat part of the hood.

Re: Yeah today sucks....

hail damage is a huge insurence claim. It's easier to replace the panels rather than repair them. Good luck though.

Re: Yeah today sucks....

If you find a good PDR guy, I've seen them charge as little as $50 per panel.
Definitely an insurance claim.

Re: Yeah today sucks....

I'm pretty sure there was a thread on here a little while back where the poster had MAJOR hail damage(or knew someone who did.) IIRC they used PDR to fix it. Try a search is my opinion, and posting pictures is sure to help as well

Re: Yeah today sucks....

Make sure you check to see if they will pay you for the diminished value of your jeep since it is so new. I went through this about three years ago. It took six months for the body shop to get my Passport fixed to my standards. I would try to find a very good PDR person and see what they would charge to fix it. Going this route would save you a lot of headaches and time.

Hail in the middle of July? Man, that's what I call bad luck.

Yeah, I got hit in August last year, 2 days after a full repaint.

I feel for ya man, I have a good idea what you're going through.

Re: Yeah today sucks....

That really sucks. It's amazing to me that the new Wranglers will handle a slow rollover well, but then get beat to hell from hail.....

Re: Yeah today sucks....

PDR should work out for you. I wouldn't even mess with new panels, that will be a nightmare.

Re: Yeah today sucks....

Insurance most likely isn't going to replace the panels. They will tell you to take it to a body shop who will have a PDR guy do the work. To replace panels you have the cost of the panel, cost of prep, cost of primer, paint, and clear, and the cost to take the old panel off and install the new. A PDR guy doesn't have to do all of that.

Re: Yeah today sucks....

I spoke to the insurance company today and we are going the PDR route. Luckily I have a soft top even though I doubt it would do any damage to a hardtop and it looks like only my hood was damaged.

Re: Yeah today sucks....

We had some pretty good size storms come in earlier this week, sorry to hear about your Jeep. I hope the repairs go smoothly.
