The reason I ask is that even when my low-technology F150 was brand new, I was told to go until about 7500 miles before an oil change so that the engine would break in better. I believe that from the factory, my truck has had synthetic-blend 5W20, so I wonder why your Camry wouldn't come off the assembly line with a quality synthetic or synthetic blend. | because Toyotas do not use Motorcraft Oil
When my vehicles were new, I dumped the facory fill at 1500 mi. I added dino or syn blend for 3000, then 4000, then the standard 5000. I'm unsure what your recommended intervals are? My Fords are 5000. Thus, I use whatever API SM 5w20 oil I find on sale. When Advance Auto has their BOGO sale, stock up on Pennzoil Platinum. It's an excellent oil for < $3/qt sale.

I agree with what others have said about not changing the OE oil sooner than recomended. Although the factory may put M1 it is not the M1 you and I have access to as it has other properties to aid break in.
I decided to go with Motorcraft sythetic blend after using M1 for quite some time... After doing quite a bit of reading, and looking at OUA's from people running the MC Syn blend I decided to go for it.. It was a steal for $2.49qt vs. M1 $6.09qt
I plan on doing my next OCI at 3k miles just to get out all the M1, at that point I'm going to filler up with MC again, do my next OCI @ 4,500 - 5,000 miles and get on OUA to check out what's going on.
If you are past the break in perriod and want to run syn.. go for it.
The only cautions I've heard is high mileage engines that have been running dino and then switching to syn
Anyhow check out bitog.. you'll find everything oil related you will need.

Mobil1 used to be my favorite oil, BUT....I was on Z forums long before I got the car and since Zs have an oil pressure gauge in them, members were reporting that as soon as they started the car back up after replacing their oil with Mobil1, the pressure went through the roof; almost TWICE as much at idle as it was with dino or other synthetics!
Ams Oil has never caused that issue for me so I am very loyal to them.

I was in a dilema over this for awhile. Some say new car these days required very little break in and some say get rid of the first oil to get rid of the metal shaving at 300 or 500. After all these, I changed it anyways so the first oil change was at 1600 miles. The current 2nd oil change already has about 2400 miles and Im thinking about changing it soon. Thanks again all.

I swtiched my accord over just before 100,000KMs no leaks and everything is fine. to bad Mobil 1 sucks and they stopped making 0W-20 IMO the greatest oil I have used in my car to date.

I have changed my last three cars over to synthetic between 3000-3500 miles. No oil usage with any........ever. I choose to change oil & filter @ 7000-7500 miles intervals. Mobil 1 in all cases but I honestly don't feel the product is as good as it once was. There is absolutely no reason to wait 10K miles to switch over unless you have a diesel.

you don't need a lot of lift tool you can get a set of "rino ramps"
@ walmart for about $30 they work great and should last forever!

basic tools
little info
Take your time
and you are all set!
It really feels good when you are done, you know the oil filter is not too tight for the next change, you know that the old oil has been FULLY drained, you know what oil is in there.. etc, etc...
Once you get the ramps or jack and stands/blocks, wrench set, filter wrench and drain pan you ae good to go... they will payt for themselves exponentially!!!

Anyways, you can't go wrong with Amsoil Synthetic. It's all I run in my car and it performs flawlessly and actually raised my MPG when I switched. | Glazing of the cylinder walls, which likely happens when most people improperly break-in their engines with regular oil anyway.
