Re: The most recent paint trend - Flat Black

Not feeling it on the Rolls.

Matte seems to be a trend with some grip in the motorcycling area. Many helmets are coming in non-black matte..My full facer is 'Antracite Matte'

Harley has some less shiny colors they call 'Denim'..e.g. Black Denim and I like it..usually as a two tone with a glossy golor

Re: The most recent paint trend - Flat Black

Good luck matching that after an accident. Ill bet its as much work as matching tri-coats.

Looks awesome. Being from Europe, we've been running these for more than a year now. Very cool!!!

Re: The most recent paint trend - Flat Black

Not a fan at all, but it usually takes me a while to catch on. So if this becomes popular in 5 years, I'll probably come around in 10 years, when the trend is waning.

Seems you either love it or hate it. The real test is not how it photographs, but how is it in person? The already large Rolls must take on massive proportions.

I like the Rolls, but that Mercedes doesn't look as good. Must be the "boxy" features of the Rolls.

Re: The most recent paint trend - Flat Black

I agree it looks more like a matte finish. A flat black would show hardly any reflection.
Personally, I think it looks neat. I just love how it makes the reflection sorta dissolve in the Rolls.

Re: The most recent paint trend - Flat Black

I love the looks, however if i had the money to own it, I would be frustrated that I couldnt polish and wax it.

all you'd have to do is rough it up a bit and put on another coat. ;p

Re: The most recent paint trend - Flat Black

I'm kinda wondering on how the finisih will hold up over time? What if you have to repair a panel? Paint matching? How durable is it? Can it be buffed if it is scratched? I think it looks cool in a show type environment, but is it feasable in every day use?

Aparrently not, on the buffing side - you actually bring OUT the shine that's "hiding" behind the matt paint.

As for scratches - no problem.....just touch it in with the same modelling paint you'd use on everyday wiper arms

I think it's totally impractical, and merely for show purposes.
