Seafoam usage?

I've heard many people sucking Seafoam through their brake booster lines to clear the carbon deposits. Is it okay to suck it in directly through the intake system? There's a part I can disconnect between the air filter and the intake, and I was wondering whether it would be okay to suck it through there, and whether the results would be the same.

I would use it through as many hoses as you can get to as not to have one section clean
and others dirty

also if you use it in your gas use it for 5 min max before an oil change
and don't drive the car with it in the oil

The idea is to clean the top end and the vacuum line system. Pulling it directly into the engine probably will not do that. If you want to clean the throttle body then go through the coolant piece right above the throttle body with throttle body cleaner. Even Acura's specific top end cleaner says to run through the brake booster line. For my Subaru, I got better response by running through a line near the center of the engine. The brake booster line only feeds one side of the horizontally opposed engine. Once used properly, I produced tons of smoke and ended up with a smoother throttle response that my wife also noticed. My Acura was very little smoke and no change in the engine quality (that I could notice).

Yeah, some cars smoke like no other for a little bit after using it. It really cleans the system up though. It is great stuff.

that has to do with quality of gas the car's been getting.

Seafoam can be used as a weak replacement for something called Upper Intake cleaner when you suck it in a vaccum line.

I've used it on our vehicles, our 05' Lexus LX470 puffed a hint of smoke as my Mountaineer did, none of our vehicles really smoked like you always hear about. With my Mountaineer though, Ford put the stupid PCV valve on the back of the V8 at an angle you basically cannot reach/access (have no idea how techs get to it). As you could run it throug hthat and feed all the cylinders etc like normal cars, but I have to use the brake booster line on that truck since you can't reach the PCV.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I'll just suck it through the brake booster line. I'm not sure where it is though.... No worries, I'll go ask on the Acura forum.

Oh, and I've done the throttle body cleaning with the throttle cleaner already, so I guess if I do it with Seafoam, it's going to be redundant.

And one more question: If I suck it through the vacuum lines, is it true that the spark plugs will be fouled? I have some pretty nice spark plugs in there right now (NGK Iridium), and I don't want to waste them

I've used Seafoam on my Saturn & Infiniti. I've put it in the gas tank on both cars. I've also sucked it through the PCV Valve on the Saturn. If your car has alot of deposits/build-up in it, you might get some strong white smoke for a few minutes, but that is normal.

Its usually best to run some through a couple days before doing an oil change, that way when you change the oil you can drain all the gunk out. As far as spark plugs, I have heard from several people that they needed to change their plugs after using it. Simply because it releases all the gunk in your engine. I would plan on changing your oil & spark plugs if you've never used it before.

I used SeaFoam on my brother's Miata which has 80k on the odo. Put it in the oil 2hrs before changing it and then into the intake manifold. Smoked like nobodys business but really cleaned the thing out. Startup is quicker and cold idle is smoother now. He claims more throttle response as well.

For my M3, i plan on doing it at 50k. I run her hard enough to keep that engine warmed up and nice and clean!

Do you guys think the smoke is so much that other people may be worried that there's a fire? Maybe I should tell my neighbors before I do the seafoam treatment.

If it smokes, it will create a smokescreen. We drove the Miata down the street and upon coming back up it was ZERO visiblity. Pretty funny though.
