Crunching gears..Ouch!

So occasionally, I accidentally miss a shift and crunch a gear. It's rare, but it happens. I don't get the shifter all the way into second, for ex. I was wondering exactly how much damage this might do. Can anyone clue me in? Again, it's rare..in the three years I've owned my car, it's happened maybe 4 or 5 times. Besides being embarrassing and sounding horrible, I'm sure it doesn't do the car any good, but how badly am I hurting it? It just happened to me this morning, which is what prompted my question.

Thanks

As long as it doesn't happen often, it won't cause any significant damage. Don't worry about it

Re: Crunching gears..Ouch!

doing it 4-5 times in three years is nothing to worry about

even people who are super experienced might grind every few months or so. At this rate, really the only thing it hurts (as mentioned above) is your ego.

It might also be a reminder to you in case you've gotten "sloppy" with your shifting lately... its great how real cars (cars with manual transmission heh) can "talk" to you in many ways.
