Dealer Packages and Mark ups...

Just thought I would post a topic about this... I went to look at new Mustangs today (not really gunna buy one, but had some time to kill between classes) and they had some with dealer packages with wheels (no name brand 20"s) and hood scoop, some with California Concepts packages with 20" Foose wheels, lowering springs, hood scoop (non fuctional), side window louvers, stripes, Flowmaster exhaust and thats it, on a fully loaded Mustang GT.

Well the dealer packages where $6,500 (wheels were $2500 tops and the scoop $275)
Now get this one...
California Concepts Mustang: $53K! LOL Just so you know... fully loaded GT is $29,500

And they had some Saleens there (not the fast ones, just the ones with body kits and and extra 30hp, probably from intake and exhaust), guess how much those are.... $68K! after dealer mark ups (which there are multiples, one $15K, another for $2K and there had to be more)

That had to be the funniest thing I have ever seen! Lets see... $53K on a Mustang or something way better! LOL I could name 20 cars in that price range I would buy before even thinking about a mustang for that much! And the Saleen... almost $70K for a Mustang with a body kit and 335HP! The car is probably still a mid 13 sec car! LOL Now I know speed isn't everything, but for $70K you can get a whole lot more car!

Yeah, it is nuts. Dealers mark up to whatever they know someone somewhere will pay. Our dealership had a new GT500 convertible sitting in the show room with no price on it. He said the price was $47,000 but he would sell it for $45,00 but another dealer might ask more. Then another dealer walks by with some cutomers and they asked how much for the GT500 and he told them $65,000! My father inlaw just got a package deal on a Cobra. I am sure for the price he could of bought a cobra, threw on some wheels, and do the cosmetic changes and saved himself a few grand.

LOL! That California edition car didn't have a price on it either... thats what he told me and I'm an 18 year old kid! I couldn't imagine if some old rich looking guy came in! Probably would have been $100K! LMAO

You're telling me the dealer was trying to sell you the California Special Package Mustang with an MSRP of $29,095 for $53K?! A mark up of almost $24k?!

That guy should be smacked across the face....What is he thinking, I think you should go back, test drive it...then show him the printed off page from Ford.com of the price and tell him to go to ***

I'm sorry but I'd take my $53k and get a Shelby GT500

LOL I should! haha But the Shelby... try $70-80K after dealer mark ups. They sold one a week earlier for $79K! At least thats what the salesman thought they sold it for... I find it quite funny that people would even pay that!

Look at the mark ups on the Ford GT's! MSRP was $150,00 and most dealerships got $200K-$300K. Crazyness!

Markup for a Ford GT okay I can understand, rare, won't be selling them anymore
Mark up $24k for a Mustang GT with a few exterior appearance mods...?? Ridiculous It's no wonder Ford has low sales numbers...look at the idiots that are trying to sell their vehicles for a markup like that.

I can't beleive they sold a GT500 for $80k...Id get a Viper for that money!

I agree.

Anything with the name Shelby on it just draws collectors and they always go up in price it seems.
