Angry '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee paint

Just wondering if anyone who owns a last-generation Grand Cherokee would like to comment about the paint quality. I can't get my father's dark blue metallic to do what I want it to. Compounds, that normally don't dust, cake up and spit all over the place; polishes don't leave a squeaky surface; sealants aren't slick; Collinite doesn't last more that 2 weeks; and no matter what I do, it ALWAYS WATERSPOTS. Anyone else been having these problems?

I guess this is maybe a problem with my dad's Jeep only? Nobody else, huh?

YES!

My cousin bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee (used) last year, and has been problems with the paint ever since. The owner seemed pretty neglectful, but my cousin isn't. One thing he gets with his is bird droppings really etch through the paint. his hood now looks like the solar system; and there weren't to many etchings when he bought it, and he upkeeps it pretty good. I'd also agree that wax/sealant don't last too long on it. He's also gotten pretty bad water spots, but I would imagine thats kinda common with a dark colored car, he also has that dark blue metallic.

AHA!!! OMG I'm not crazy! My Dad's Jeep also has a massive bird etching on the hood that would need like 50 grit sandpaper to get out. LOL You're probably right about the waterspotting, but I wouldn't expect it to be so bad after heavy polishing and an application of 845. Then it must be that the last-gen Jeep paints were completely crap (well, at least the dark blue metallic). Thank you for the reassurance.....

Wow, even my mom's '98 is that way. It's black and like you said the hood looks like a solar system. The etchings are horrible, straight down through the paint with white specs.

I really don't think anything can fix the etching, they are that deep.

At first I though it was where he was parking because from what I understand some bird droppings will cause more damage then others. But he stopped working there, and he parks his truck in the same spots that my aunt and other cousin park there trucks. They have a green explorer and blue jimmy and none of them have as bad or as many etchings as his. His paint is pretty bad, as well as his faded plastic cladding.

Haha yup, happens on my dad's too. Luckily some CG Liquid Extreme Shine fixes that right up for a few weeks.
