Hi-Tech German Parking Garage
Quote:
This is pretty amazing! Can you imagine how all this operates??
How do they lock each car in its cubicle for safety? WHO CARES. NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND COULD GET IN THERE.
Talk about German efficiency! The two photos below were taken at a new parking garage in Munich. The actual space that the facility occupies is approximately only 20% of a comparable facility with the traditional design that is used primarily in the US.
Not only is the German structure less expensive to build, but vehicles are also "retrieved" in less time and without the potential of being damaged by an attendant.

WOW! I wonder if there is a restriction on what size a car can be.

Do you think that could be a parking ramp to hold new cars for a manufacturing plant. I don't see any plates on the cars and they kind of all look like one brand (company) of car. The tail lights are all very similar.

More efficient use of space, yes.
Faster, i doubt it. Especially considering there is only one machine to retrieve the cars.

Maybe it's a car dealer's "lot".

Looks a lot like the inventory holding tower at the Glass Factory VW Phaeton plant. The vehicles are all VWs...and Phaeton production is down so they may be using this facility for other models. Or it's at another VW plant using the same concept as the Phaeton facility...
Very cool.

Wow looks like the hotwheels collection I had as a kid
I do agree it seems to be more of a dealer or car company inventory. They all look like VWs. This sure would cut down in door dings, and random acts of vandalism though

They have had robotic elevator type systems similar to this in Japan for awhile, where space is so limited.

A fully operational parking brake would seem to be a prime requisite.
Does it automatically deposit the car in the 'slot' or does somebody ride with it and park it?
