With the sequential, to go from 7th down to 2nd you have to press the paddle a few times and go through all the gears in between.
F1 gearboxes are indeed sequential semi-autos, but mostly because they can change gears in literally milliseconds, which nobody with a regular manual box could ever do. Then again, a modern F1 gearbox costs more than most complete high end sports cars!

Hondaguy2582- Hey, haven't seen you around here lately

Heh heh, your post is an almost *exact* quote of what Accumulatorette used to say! For years she refused to even consider a car like her current A8 because of her hatred of automatics. So I'll be an insufferable old codger and say "just wait about 30 years..."

For that matter I never drove an automatic-equipped station wagon until my left knee had issues and I never did get used to having an automatic in one of those.

I noticed a lot of responders who said they don't mind driving manual EVEN in traffic are posting from places like Hollister CA, WI, ND, CT.........c'mon you guys don't know what traffic is. C'mon down to So. Cal and hop on any freeway between 3:30p & 7:00p do that for 45 days in your manual tranny cars and I'm sure you'll be whistling a different tune within 20 days. Traffic in ND & WI ????

There are no major cities or areas of congestion in ND/WI?

My Excursion has an auto as I had no choice. Especially for towing an auto is a good choice.

That said...I thank ford and Dodge that they did not offer automatics in the Viper or Cobra. The Cobra clutch is HEAVY...like an older musclecar...but I'd have it no other way.

It's all relative my friend. A 4-lane traffic jam is no different than a 12-lane traffic jam. There are more cars in a 12-lane jam, but more lanes by which to evacuate the jam.

It's your own fault for living in a county with nearly 10 million other people that need to get to work.

Paul, traffic is traffic. You ain't seen it until you've seen the 405, 10 etc. during rush HOURS. It's a toss up between us and Dallas.

my own fault? who said i was complaining a week ago it was 88 degrees here !!! You think I would trade that for a county covered in snow and only 2 million daily commuters? No thanks, you can keep your less populated county, snow boots, snow plows and northface down jackets, I'll stay here with the traffic, t-shirts, shorts & flip flops. Besides I have my cup of coffee, cd changer loaded up, bluetooth fired up, blackberry on the ready so i just slip the tranny in "D" and Im off.

That's twice you've missed the point...it must be REAL cold out that way.

SPOILED.........I won't go near the 405 or 10 at those hours i keep it on surface streets just so i can keep moving at a decent rate of speed. Maybe i should move to wisconsin

Oh I won't be putting up with this cold and snow for much longer. I hate it.

Ditto on the hatred of snow. I was born here so I "had no choice." I finish my undergraduate in June.

My girlfriend of 4+ years finishes in a little over a year (she changed majors, twice now... eck) so I'll have to batten down for one or two more winters and we're headed out west or down south. We both agree though that we will not live in an area where a five mile interstate commute could end up taking hours instead of minutes, but that is just us.
