Changing battery -- small spark?

That time of the battery's life (4.5+ years) where the car wouldn't start, so I had to replace it. The longest part was waiting for AutoZone to open. Should a small spark occur when reconnecting the negative terminal? I know it usually happens on a jump, but I don't use the neg terminal for jumping.

Just don't remember if that's normal or not...
