New Pontiac Solstice

I had the opportunity to sit in this new roadster and in a word it's HOT!!!! I'm 6' 4" tall and I fit in perfectly. All the reviews have been postive and it looks like Pontiac finally hit a winner with this one. The down side is they can't keep up with production and prices are soaring over $5-8K over sticker. It is my hope that they speed up production soon to catch up with orders. Next year a turbo goes in it. at that time, I might order one. its the first roadster I can actually drive. Gary

I love it too, and when the turbo version comes out, I'll be seriously considering importing one to Japan (though there are a few other cars I'm considering doing the same with).

I love it too, although I'll hold out on any purchase until I can drive the Saturn Sky. The Saturn looks more masculine IMO. A turbo?? Man, that will definitely spice up the roadster market! Mazda better get going on the new Mazdaspeed MX-5!

I could never see myself driving a pontiac, ever. It is a nice looking car though.

I couldnt see buying a GM product either, but the Solstice, the Saturn equivalent and the Vette are 3 that I would seriously consider if I was shopping in those market segments.

Good looking car. From the reports I have read the Saturn equivalent is suppose to lose some of the sporting edge that the Solstice has (not in looks but in driving impressions and ride tuning). I think GM did a good job with this car I just wish they could have kept the weight down a little more and/or increased the naturally aspirated horse power.

Actually, the downside to the Solstice is the fact that they've been put on production hold at least twice due to quality issues. Lots of guys who have a Solstice on order are being told they have to wait longer for thier cars...much longer. And it's got the guys who've already taken delivery wondering what might have "gotten past the QC guys with my car???"

While I agree that the Sky is the sexier of the two GM entries, the MX-5 still tops them for flat out sports car performance driving. I've driven the new MX-5 and own a 1999 Miata. I bought the car because I wanted the classic small sports car feel, ultimately tossable in the corners. The MX-5 still wins in that regard, so say more than a few car magazines and online comparison reviews. But I'll just bet many people will view the additional creature comforts, larger wheels, etc on the Solstice as a bonus, and opt for one of those instead.

Still, when 2007 rolls around and GM drops the 250HP turbo motor in the Solstice, I just might be willing to overlook the superior handling of the MX-5. At least until the next generation Mazdaspeed MX-5 hits showrooms.

The Solstace, from the company that brought you the Fiero. Think I'll pass for now.

Have you read any of the reviews?? Don't judge a book by its cover.

Why don't you look at the Honda S2000? It is a better car than those 2 will ever be!

Sure I read the reviews. I read the reviews of the Fiero when it was introduced as well. They both sound the same. I'll wait before making my decision to buy another Pontiac and I've owned a few. My first was a 1956 Starfire.

I can say one thing for certain, I've never owned a quality Pontiac. Then again they are not making their cars for the quality conscious crowd. If I want quality I'll buy an Infinity, Toyota or a Lexus. Perhaps even this will be available soon.

Well, since it costs so much more money, it should be, right? Just like a Corvette destroys an S2000, but costs thousands more as well - see a pattern here?
