Re: honda or toyota?

so my dad finally got to drive his 07' (been in the garage for almost a year) camry today as he sold his 98' honda accord. he would of driven the new camry alot earlier, but was waiting for the accord to give out. the point of this story... while it wasn't in the best of shape (for the most part the exterior) it had 250,000+ miles on it, and still was running with no signs of breaking down! while he says he won't buy another honda again (my dad is picky and says they're too loud, and just favors toyota over honda in general), that won't stop me from buying another one again...

p.s. i'll probably polish it out soon, as there are some DISO...

Re: honda or toyota?

Is it just me or is it getting harder and harder to tell the difference between Hondas and Toyotas.
With all car manufacturers trying to mimic style from others they are all turning into clones of each other. Even the mix between European and Japanese cars is getting more common. Just look at the older Toyota Corolla and the new VW Jettas.

Re: honda or toyota?

I don't think the new Accord and the Camry look anything alike other then the fact that they both have 4 doors (except the Accord Coop). I am actually disappointed in the styling of the new Accord(except for the interior, pretty nice), at least the Sedan anyway. The Coop is ok I guess. Very glad they went with the 3.5 V6 to compete with the Camry and the Altima and it is now offered with 2 versions of the 2.4 which is kinda nice, though, i am shocked that the gas mileage is down on the 4cyl. I have always been a Honda guy but I also like Toyota too and have owned both. I like the new Camry and also the Altima Sedan and the new Coop too(very nice). They are both very different cars, it all depends on what you like.

Several people have touted that Toyota has better interiors, I much prefer a Honda interior, not as bland. Love the new Civic too, all the way around, damn nice.

Ok, enough rambling...

Re: honda or toyota?

I personally choose Honda over Toyota. I like their styling a bit more and they are fun to work with, with lots of aftermarket support...for both non-performance and performance mods/upgrades/maintenance. I just get this weakish feeling from a Toyota. Perhaps I'm VERY biased towards Honda, but they seem to take abuse a lot better.
VTechFan02...its actually spelt VTEC by the way

Re: honda or toyota?

You are correct Kaval, that was pretty silly of me. Oh well, I will live with it.

Re: honda or toyota?

I think TigerMike just proved my point with the Hyundai. It's just getting harder to distinguish cars as individual brands on the road compared to years ago when you could spot a quarter panel and say "hey, that's a Honda".

Re: honda or toyota?

I would recommend Honda over Toyota. I don't have much experience with Toyota, but my brother has a civic that was my dad's before. It is still running great. It hasnt been to the shop at all and it is almost 4 years old. The only thing is that Honda has really high resale value's and it is hard to find a cheap honda unless they have over 100,000 miles on them.

Re: honda or toyota?

Now that TigerMike pointed it out, the new Accord *really* does look like Sonata. My mother has had countless Toyotas and they have always been very reliable and a good car for her.

Re: honda or toyota?

Well of course the Accord looks like the Sonata Honda and Hyundai have a partnership together to cut cost. That also include the sheet metal part. And if I remember correctly a friend of mine worked at a factory that produced parts for both Honda and Hyundai. The one Toyota in my family lasted to 200k before we didn't check the oil and it threw a rod. The only car that beat that was a Ford Thunderbird with 350K on it. Both of those car have been replaced with some variant of a Toyota. Except for my moms 500. I heard that the new Civics had a problem with the airbag covers coming off the dash board, and also an oil leak from an ill fitted oil pan, but the Sonata cam off scott clean.
