'06 Z06 Corvette 0-60 time and MSRP
Hey all!!
The following excerpt was taken verbatim out of the October '05 issue of Corvette Enthusiast magazine (page 15):
"Chevrolet has announced that the fastest Corvette ever - the 505-horsepower Corvette Z06 - will achieve 0-60 in 3.7 seconds while still in first gear, and pricing will start at $65,800, including destination and freight charges. For all its race-inspired functionality, the Corvette Z06 also is designed to be refined as a daily driver with a sophisticated and comfortable interior and generous cargo volume. The Z06 will be offered in Machine Silver Metallic, Victory Red, Daytona Sunset Orange, Le Mans Blue Metallic, Velocity Yellow tintcoat and Black exterior colors".
I would anticipate dealers asking as much as $10K over sticker until the first model year ends and some "lightly used" examples find their way to the market.
I would also anticipate mid to high eleven second (possible low 11's with a good driver) 1320 times...pretty darn sick for a box stock car on street tires!!

I can't wait, I have one of these sick cars on order! My dealer will have my allocation in Oct/Nov, hopefully will have her before the end of this year. Victory red, 2LZ pkg, ebony interior! And I am paying under sticker!

Heck yeah Torch!!! I expect a full compliment of pictures of your new Z after its first Autopian detail!! CONGRATS on the below sticker price as well...that must be a large dealership with an even bigger Corvette allocation.

Pat!! Actually one of my monthly regulars is selling his '03 Z...
...and already has a deposit on an '06. So all things willing I should get my hands on one.

Any car can be fast in a straight line. For less than the price of a Z06 too. But the Nordschleife time is very interesting indeed. 7:43. A good deal at $65k imo.

Do they still shake like a dickens at speed?
No doubt the performance is great but I would rather have the integrity of a Cayman and put $8K left over into a stereo.

No shake at speed.
I'm not sure which was the last generation Corvette you drove but they have not done that for quite sometime.

65K aint bad at all w/505 HP
Obtw, Corvette drivers "should" stop calling a"Z". Thats for Nissan only...If people calling a Vetter a Z. It get more confusing. Oh well just my 2cents.

They don't shake, they don't roll. They just eat (especially exotics!). Don't turn your back on one, they deserve all of the respect that GM's technology has earned.

Or you could try to somehow parlay that $8k into making up the 210hp deficit the Cayman will have.

Well the Cayman won't be nearly as fast but will probably be more luxurious, likely better handling given the engineering and mid-engine design, and 5 seconds to 60 is plenty for me.

Actually, Chevy's got the right to that, seeing as how they've used it nearly forever in option codes on Camaros, Corvettes, and several other cars. The Z28 existed before any Datsun Z-car did.

Those are some pretty hefty assumptions, the key word being the last one in that sentence. The new Z06 is a hell of a car in terms of pure speed, handling, and comfort given that level of performance. There's no way the Cayman will be able to compete with it. The Porsche have a different feel to it regarding handling due to the mid engine design, but "feel" means nothing, it won't be superior. Perhaps more tail-happy, if anything (ask a 911 owner.) I also seriously doubt it'll be more comfortable based on my previous experiences in Boxsters (which I found to be more uncomfortable than base model C5 Corvettes, let alone the superior C6.)
