RedLine MTL

Anyone else use this? I changed the tranny fluid in the 'vette yesterday, and was surprised to see greyish black stuff settled in the bottom of each Manual Transmission Lube bottle. I shook them up as I figure whatever the stuff is, it's part of the oil (the containers were sealed). Is this normal? The bottle doesn't say to shake it or anything (what kind of oil does say that, afterall).

I had Redline MT-90 in the Maxima, and I can't recall whether I saw anything like that.
I just ordered some Redline 75W-90 gear oil for the Protege, so I'll take a look at it when I get it this week.

I use it in the gear box and diff in the Miata (75-90 and MTL). It's nice and quiet, and the car shifts very smoothly.

Hmm I wonder if my gearbox is the same as the Miata's? It's the same engine right? 1.6L DOHC 16V?

Nope, Miata is RWD and your car is FWD.

Well, have you ever noticed anything settled out of it in the bottle? My car feels a bit smoother in shifting action too now. Nice stuff. Just thought the stuff in the bottle was weird...

Heard back from Redline. I figured I'd pass it on:

Quote:
Bob,

Thank you for contacting Red Line Oil, a small part of the additive
package can settle out with sitting, though it is such a small
percentage it isn't critical to get it all.

If you have the batch code number I can check the retain.

You didn't get a bad batch, it isn't abnormal. The additive is
marginally soluble at the concentration we use, so some can settle
out. We could use less or just package in a dark bottle.

Regards, Dave
Red Line Oil

I've been sent some very old stock from RedLine in the past. I wasn't too happy about it - - the product had completely separated. This was a 2 stroke oil, not MTL.

The person selling the product didn't make any attempt to wipe the 1" thick layer of dust from the bottles prior to shipping to me. The stuff was OLD.
