Hummer H3

I'm looking to purchase a new vehicle over the next year. I always liked the H2 but is too pricey for me. But the H3 is priced right. Anyone own one or know anything about them?

I like a nice vehicle thats a bit unique and will look great detailed. I'm not into off roading so I dont care about its off road capabilities.

The H2 is a tax loophole. Under Bush's new tax plan, business owners can deduct the entire cost of their $55,000 H2. If you are in the highest tax bracket, that's a tax savings of nearly $20,000! The government rewards you more savings for buying an H2 than you'd get for buying an electric car.
Works good for me!!

Intercooled - We looked at and test drove the H3s before purchasing the Z71 Tahoe.

IMO, the H3 was put into production too quickly and lacks some of the features that I like and expect in a vehicle. The H3 has less cargo space than our old '99 4Runner, which simple wasn't enough for us. It's a pretty neat vehicle at a decent price, but wasn't the right choice for *us.*

According to the most recent C&D (which isn't the most reliable source IMO) the H3 is just a hussied-up Chevy Colorado. They give a pretty thorough review of it if you want to pick a copy up. It has the H2 look but it's much smaller. I'm afraid it's going to be all style and no substance. Personally, the "Hummer" style isn't for me. If you want the look, the H3 is the cheapest way to get it right now. If you want a truly capable off-road vehicle, you should probably look elsewhere.

Typically, those who comment on the off-road capability of the H2/3 have never even ridden in one. To avoid any controversy, etc. that's all I'll say about that

I like the H3 look. The price to me is right. I haven't seen one up close or test driven one yet. I dont care about off road capability. I want something for myself other than my work truck (box van) or my garage queen. (which gets driven about 1200 miles a year). My wife has the family mini van which I hate driving. When she's out in it I'm stuck with either my work truck or the GN which I dont like to drive to estimates or the mall or in the rain. You get the idea. I'm looking for something I can drive after work in good and bad weather, with the kids, to estimates etc. But yet has a nice cool look, something that I can have fun with detailing and is a bit unique.
Is the size like the Tahoe or smaller like a jeep cherokee?

The overall exterior size is similar to a Jeep Cherokee, but the interior has less room, IMO. I really do like the look of them...especially with the luxury and off-road packages combined

Your best bet is to test drive one and determine whether or not it's the vehicle for you.

I haven't been in a H3 yet. The guy I bought my house from works at the Hummer dealer and has a H2. I can't say I'm that impressed. It's a really nice vehicle and it behaves amazingly well for its hulk but I say it's overrated and overpriced. It reminds me a lot of Land Rovers. It can go up steep terrain and it can ford some decent water when set-up right but I've been climbing rocks and dunes in a CJ7 and a CJ4 as well as a Merc. Unimog. All of these make the H2 pale in comparison off-road. I watched one try to climb a small sheer face and get stuck once. He had seen the unimog do it earlier in the day and wanted to try his unstoppable H2 on it. It was pretty painful because the truck was mint and looked like it had never seen a hard day until then. It scraped up the shiny skid plate and the bumper guard petty well. I don't think its owner will be back to try that again. Another time I saw one get very unhappy with only two wheels on the ground. I don't know how GM has the 4WD set-up on those but he very nearly tipped the thing over.

Anyhow, the H3 is smaller than the Tahoe. It's very similar in size to the latest iteration of the Grand Cherokee. You'll catch some flak from people about it being a posuer vehicle. But if you drive it and you like it, who cares? I think the styling is distinctive. The review complained about interior space being on the low side but you can decide what's right for you. Right?

WOAH there, let's get the facts straight. The loophole had nothing to do with Bush, it's been around since the Carter administration. It was designed to allow farmers and small businesses to get tax relief frrom their large vehicle purchases (tractors, haulers, etc.) The law provided for vehicles over 6000 lbs. but recently some sharp eyed lawyers and dentists discovered that a Hummer or Escalade qualified.

Congress is now working on a new law that will eliminate or reduce this loophole while still protecting small business.

I got that info from a derogatory web-site that mataku posted ( It then got deleted ).
It was quoted from that website ( which is all about hateing Hummers).
DF, your right and your statement is true!!

Well its not going to get out of its own way thats for sure and i also think it was rushed into production. Most of the suvs in the class have at leat 250 horsepower and the h3 gets the 220 horse inline 5 that is in the colorado but to each there own me myself i would buy a jeep for running around LOL
