Since this thread got bumped....we still have the Jag (well, of course), and the '00 and '01 Audis, all of which we plan to keep indefinitely. The '02 MPV might stick around a while longer too. There just aren't any replacements we'd like as well...seems weird with all the great cars being made these days, but that's how my wife and I feel about it
Everything else, well they're subject to my whims of the moment, and the Blazer is about to go to its new owner after about 20 months of ownership. I'm gonna miss the Blazer, but it's a boatload of problems just waiting to happen and I did promise it to the buyer (who's been very patient). Worked great as a beater though, and for teaching the youngest dog how to act around vehicles.
Looking over this thread, I *still* miss my old Volvo 240 wagon, but at least my niece-in-law is taking good care of it and she appreciates it almost as much as I did.

The '08 WRX I just picked up in November is my first car payment I paid cash for everything else... Took out a 5 year loan on it, but at this rate I should be able to pay it off in about 3 1/2 years... I like the car right now and say I won't get rid of it, but I can get bored with a car quick...

I wish I could keep my cars longer, but I tend to a. get bored with them and b. find something cooler/better. When I buy my Bimmer, I pledged to myself and my wife to keep it "forever". My wife isn't much better, her longest run was 3 years and she's had 5 vehicles.

In today's world of high pitch marketing, most of you youngsters are following the big auto makers plan to keep everyone in new cars. I don't think any of today's car makers want us in a car over a few years, that way those plants keep churning them out. Its not cool anymore do have you car paid off, but it is cool to have the latest and greatest most horsepower gas guzzler parked out front for all the world to see, its our status symbol, our, ok I fit in, I drive a hummer badge of honor. Don't worry, I only talk crazy, I follow the play book too. I have a whole yard of fresh cars in every color, red 05 scion tc, black 06 Nissan frontier crew cab, silver 07 vw jetta and our weekend toy of course. And for those of you with Exxon mobile stock I support you guys too.

Recently bought Momma a new Tahoe, and since I gave my son my truck I will buy a new one at the end of this year.

My biggest thing, besides that I like new technology/gadgets (and new cars seem to have them!) is that I feel that as a car ages, it isn't as safe as it was new. Not that a car I could've bought when I first started driving would be less safer over the last 8 years, but with rust, continuous use of seat belts and all that crap, sometimes I think there should be a shelf or usable life to vehicles on the roads. But this could all be solved by simple inspections (just like how some states require emission testing) to see if the car is indeed safe (or not) to be on the roads. I say this only because I'm tired of seeing idiots with completely rusted out POS's on the road (who coincidentally seem not to have insurance!), having stuff fall off their cars, and also thinking about them in a crash...they'll need a tetnis shot before a paramedic would save them
I guess if everyone cared for cars like we do here, there wouldn't be a problem, but in the mean time....

Living up north with the salt doesn't help much either, no matter how much you wash the car.
