Integra guys...
I have a few questions for you. Come September, it'll be time for me to get my first car. I've contemplated everything from a Jeep Wrangler to a Silverado to an Integra. Since evaluating the practicality of each, my parents and I have narrowed it down to the Integra. My dad has owned 3 Accords, all of which ran 60k+ miles flawlessly, so you'd imagine he's all for a Teg. I wouldn't mind not having to pay some major maintainence/repair fees that come with higher end cars either.
So, on to the questions. What models should I look at? Are the Type-Rs worth the risk of theft and high insurance costs? Also, if I were to add some slight mods, what are the best brands in terms of quality, performance, etc? (In terms of suspension and engine mods) How do you like your Integra? Is it fun to drive?
I was going to dig through Team Integra and find answers to these questions, but I figured there are quite a few Integra owners on here who know cars at an Autopian level .
Thanks in advance!

I'll start by saying that my car is a project unfinished that will not likely changle much from its current state. The only problem I've had with my 98 GS-R was a dry spot on the door panel that was replaced by the dealer but I don't know if that really a fair assessment as it only has 26k miles on it. The current mods are:
1) H&R Sport springs
2) 18" Racing Hart Type C rims
3) AEM Cold Air Intake
4) HKS Hyper exhaust
One day I will do some "timing" tricks for the additional free HP that comes with it. The one thing I don't like about the car is that I lowered it more than I should have and at the same time I LOVE the handling that comes with my setup. If I were to change the springs, I would go with the H&R OE Sport springs that don't lower the car as much but have the same stiffness. I enjoy the quickness of the car and they respond well to the right mods while still keeping good mileage around town.
Type R's are cool cars and good collectors BUT I wouldn't want one to drive regularly. I wish I had waited a couple months when I bought my car and gotten an R as I would have a REAL keeper at this point but when I bought there was no info on when they would be available or if they would come in something other than CS White. They have to be watched too much to use them regularly unless you really live in an area where nobody cares about them.
If you can find one that hasn't been beat to death and has decent miles on it go ahead and pull the trigger. Get a valve adjustment and have everything inspected and put some Mobile 1 in that thing and enjoy it. Keep in mind that the V-TEC engine Tegs will need premium unleaded gas and think about that as an expense and also check on insurance costs for between the GS-R and the lesser cars.

I have an 01 gs-r. they are fun cars, and super reliable. I am approcahing 40k on it, and have only had 1 problem, and that was my fault i guess. i literally never used the ac for 2 years, and it doesn't blow as cold anymore. oh well.
as far as modifying, just remember you get what you pay for. i don't have many mods, but i just try and choose good stuff. i have 2 suspension setups, a h&r race/koni yellow setup (soon for sale), and full h&r coilovers. I also have a apexi n1 exhaust, aem intake, skunk2 short shifter, 15x7 ssr competitions, kumho mx tires, stereo stuff, a comptech wing and maybe a few other things i cannot remember. i get my comptech 22mm rear sway/tie combo put on soon, that should make the car a lot more fun to drive. Now these aren't a lot of mods, but it makes the car so much more fun to drive.
They are really fun cars, you should enjoy it. Of course buy an R if you have the chance, but personally i've never been able to find one up to my standards to purchase, which is kind of odd because it is such a rare car that you think people would be meticulous.

H&R OE Sports lower .75 inch. Well you can get the, what, .25 ones or something, but the .75 is the way to go.

It's a pretty good deal when you consider it is only ~1000 over book with ~5k in mods And it is owned by an autopian

I drive a 1999 Acura Integra LS and I am 16 ( I worked for it and paid for it) and so far I love the car. I only have a AEM Short Ram Intake on it now but will be getting some 16" 5Zigen wheels + some summer tires this coming spring. I got the LS because my mom thought if I got the GSR I would get killed in it. I still love my LS though. Been great for me.
If you have any questions on the car feel free to from me a email at GratisFreebies@Gmail.com
Thanks!
