Z71 Tahoes

For those of you with Z71 Tahoes, what do you think? Any problems? Any complaints?

We are either going to buy an H3 Hummer or a Z71 Tahoe, so we are trying to do some research and make the best decision possible.

Thanks for any help

My wife loves her Tahoe Z71. So far we haven't had a single problem. The steering assembly was replaced under a recall notice (TSB about getting a bit of 'play' over time), but other than that it's been trouble free. The gas mileage isn't pretty, but I'm sure you know that going in.... I average 13-15 in mixed driving.
The Z71 comes with a ton of features too. About the only thing I don't like about it is the plastic dash & door trim. GM should do A LOT better in that area for a 40+K SUV.

Will the hummer fit into your garage?

Well, I dont have a Tahoe but my wife has an 05 GMC Yukon XLT and I have an 05 GMC Sierra Denali Crew Cab. I love her Yukon. Rides great and big enough for our family and dog. My only complaint about the yukon is its ride as the suspension is a bit squishing for my liking. My truck has the offroad package and I if could do it again I would have got that on the yukon. Although its called an offroad package the upgrade to the sway bar and Bilstein shocks is a huge plus for regular driving. I personally like GMC's front end better but we couldnt be happier with the two...except for the gas mileage!

If you do get one of those, make sure you get the Wester's PCM upgrade. I've got the 93 Hot in mine and it is amazing the difference in power. Torque mgt wastes so much of the powerband.

Thanks for the replies so far!

The H3 Hummer is much smaller than the H1 and H2...it's like a large 4Runner. It would fit in the one car garage without a problem, but it lacks several features and the cargo capacity of the Z71.

Most likely will have a black, white, or silver birch metallic Z71 'Hoe.

I think the H3 is built on the Trailblazer EXT/Envoy XL platform, but I could be mistaken. So yeah, it's going to be a LITTLE bit smaller than the Tahoe. Not by much though.

They (H3s) have signifcantly less cargo space than a Tahoe. We've spent a good amount of time in both vehicles.

Here's C&D on it: http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=1

I can tell you that my dad has a Tahoe, and we've been very happy with it. In fact, about five of my dad's friends have Tahoes, and I never hear anyone complain. Plenty of power, reliable, lots of space, etc. etc. I don't think you can go wrong with one.

Any other opinions?

I think as soon as we locate a Z71 with navigation, the deal will be going down

Congrats. You are making the right choice in getting the Tahoe, IMO.

If I remember correctly the navi option is about $2k, right? I put the touchscreen navi in mine for about $1600 and I am now looking on eBay for one for my wife. You can get the navi, dvd and antenna for 1200 tops right now on eBay. Install takes MAYBE 30 minutes. Plug and play. Something to think about if you wanted to save a few bucks.

Yes, it is a $2k option. I have spoken with my audio man about it and he recommended going with the factory if possible...the aftermarket Eclipse unit has better sound quality and the ability of DVD, but affects the OnStar and XM functions (some sort of adapter is needed for everything in the vehicle to operate as intended).

I don't buy big purchases like that from Ebay for warranty issues.

Thanks for the heads-up though.
