I was under the impression old MR2s had single stage paint.. what is this?

I thought it must just be oxidation, but he does seem to be right... that it looks like the clear is chipping off. I've seen beauty shots of AIO working magic on these mr2s, so if it was just fade and the price was right I'd still consider buying it. What do you think?

Maybe it was in an accident if those cars were not cleared.

So that definately is clear chipping away? Do you guys think anything can be done about it? The paint under the chipping looks like it can be made to look new again... if only it was even... think maybe it could be made to look good with maybe some SSR and AIO?

Without seeing the car in detail it is hard to know but if the clear coat is failing the only real option is to repaint

The previous owner of my buddies 1979 pace car Mustang. Had clear coat sprayed over the original paint "to protect it", it suffered the same effects you see on that MR2. All the paint on his had to be sanded off, it's in the body shop now.

Well, I confirmed that that paint should not have a clear. The fade isn't a problem, but if that really is clear... maybe the clear can be wetsanded and then some SSR , AIO for the fade, and Souveran to make a blingin red car?

Maybe I'm just dreaming... but not sure if this car has potential or not without being repainted.

edit: All of the paint on the Mustang had to be sanded off? from the looks of this picture, if they are the same situation, the clear looks like it would just peel right away and leave the basecoat exposed
