2000 nissan quest speakers

hey guys, my dad has a 2000 Nissan Quest minivan. His back speakers blew and we went to CircuitCity to put some polks in but the discovered that they would need to redo the whole stereo system (head unit, rewrie, speakers!) because the oem one has an amp. And it would probably cost $400 just for installation alone (and this applies to all aftermarket speakers). I was wondering if any of you guys know who makes the oem speakers and if there is any online place I can check the prices on them and maybe order them?

actually, the BOSE systems are pretty screwy and has pissed off a lot of the people at maxima.org; chances are your dad's quest is the same way. best option is to get a replacement speaker from another nissan at the junkyard.

if you change the head unit but keep the speakers, you can buy a harness to convert the standard resistance of the head unit to one ohm and use the regular speakers.

if you get an aftermarket speaker, you'll probably also need to have them cut new speaker holes - I think the standard ones in nissans are 6x9.

I'm not sure how my Pioneer DEH-P6400 is wired into the Bose system in my 626 but the difference was like night and day. When it was installed and the installer turned it on, my son turned to me with a stunned look on his face and said "is that our car?" No more boomy bass, no muddled midrange and lousy highs. It honestly sounded as good as the same HU in my Accord with a 4 channel Kenwood amp with JBLs in the doors and Infinity Kappas in the rear.

My rear speakers don't have amps attached to them but the ohm rating isn't listed. Do you know if I would have any problems upgrading the speakers in the rear deck? Maybe some 6 x 9 Kickers?

Shouldnt it be what holland_patrick said as "a speaker is a speaker"? A safe bet would be to get a replacement from a junkyard as others mentioned. But I would say that the amp could power any speaker. To be safe, try and find out what the specs for the current amp and speakers are to find a subtable replacement

There shouldnt be any problems. Your current speakers and whatever replacements you get should all be at the standard 4 ohms. Im sure this isnt the rule, but it should be right most of the time.

2000 Nissan Quest minivan is basically the same vehicle as the 2000 Mercury Villager minivan. I'm 99% certain that the OEM speakers are manufactured by Visteon, so you're not going to have any luck finding that brand as an aftermarket replacement.

I looked at Crutchfield, for both the Quest & the Villager, but they only list the front door speakers (which are the typical Ford 6 x 8) and th emidpanel, which under all factory options looks to be a 4" diameter speaker.

You're best bet would be to CALL Crutchfield, and they'll tell you what will or won't work. The one thing it's not a Bose system. Both vans were assembled at Ford's Avon Lake, OH Assembly Plant, and Bose has never supplied Ford with anything. Vans were designed by Nissan at Nissan's California design center, use a Nissan powertrain, but former Ford division Visteon supplied all the electronics, including the entire instrument panel (plus the exterior lighting and the front end trim). The guys at Circuit City may or may not know what they are talking about.

This is a case where they DON'T. While there might be an amp for the speakers, it's NOT Bose and IS compatible with replacements. I almost made the silly mistake and bought one before coming to my senses and getting to the Honda dealer. Get a good set of new speakers, go to the dealer and get one speaker, go to the junk yard and get one or two since you're there or replace the WHOLE system and be really happy.

Sometimes Bose speakers have real weird impedence ratings, like 1.2 ohms and stuff like that. A normal 4 ohm speaker wouldn't play nearly as loud in that case. It is frustrating when Bose won't give out any specifications on the system I own which is why my next car won't have Bose...which didn't sound very good anyway until I changed the head unit to a Pioneer.

Hmmm, it shows my rear 6 x 9s are 1 ohm speakers and they want $170 per pair!

If I decide to upgrade, I'm just yanking out the whole Bose system.

That's the typical price for a Bose 6X9. I don't care for Bose at all cause it uses lots of ear trickery to make you think what you hear is bass. The newer systems are much better than the older ones but they still have a bit too much equalization for my taste.
