Lug Nuts/Bolts for Winter Wheels

Wasn't sure if I should put this here or in the Car & Driver forum, so mods feel free to move it.

A recent post about checking the air in one's spare tire prompts me to advise that:

If you run different wheels in the winter, be sure the lug nuts/bolts that you use on the winter wheels will also work with your spare. If not, carry a set of the OE ones in a bag near the spare so you have them when and where you need them.

Also check that any non-OE lug nuts/bolts have the same size heads as whatever lugwrench you're carrying. For one of my 9C1s I have a special socket that has a male end which fits in the factory wrench and a female end that fits over the aftermarket lugnuts.
