Insurance renewal (UK based)

It's come to that time of year when my car insurance is due for renewal. I spent ages last year shopping for the best deal, and the "Quote me Happy" gang came up with a great price of £538 (approx USD $956), far better than any other company.

So a couple of days ago my renewal arrived and no great suprise it went up slightly to £571 ($1014)

So purely out of curiosity, I went back onto their website, entered the same details and was completely amazed to see a price of £482 ($856) appear Same car, same address, same everything...... except the price

I couldn't understand the difference so I rang them and said I'd got my renewal but their site is quoting a different price. The guy checked out the quote I'd got online, then said "I'll just ask my manager what we can do today" and after adjusting my annual milage, he came back with a price of £467 ($829)

I still don't know why there was such a huge difference, but they have a happy customer for another year

Wonder what they'll charge next year ?? They may be getting another phone call

Just goes to show how much savings can be made with a little work.

I almost got a quote for £100 less than everyone else from Elephant but this vanished when they said I had claimed in the last year. When someone poured paint stripper, I informed my insurance firm but did not claim. Elephant say this is the same thing Ended up with Direct Line for £350

I'd be too with them saying that.

It might be worth writing to the Insurance Ombudsman and ask them to clarify how it can be the same. If they say it isn't the same (as I would expect) then it may help next time around.

this happens in the US too. Progressive insurance calls it remarketing. Not sure why they won't give existing customers the same breaks, but I guess it something like a promotion that's only give to new customers.

We were able to have my gf's insurance remarketed a few times, but now they say that existing policy holders can't do it. We'd have to keep switching back and forth between insurance companies.
