scooters
What do people think of scooters?
I know, I know, men should love Harleys and sport bikes, but for easily getting around town, a sotter doesn't seem all that bad. They're easy so you or your significant other could use it, they fast enough for city traffic, and they're cheap to buy, drive, and I assume maintain. I was overseas and everyone seems to have one, so it must make some sense even in SUV america.
Anyone have a scooter? What do you all think of them?

I don't own a scooter but they are great ways of travelling quickly in a city.
They are very popular in many parts of the world including Europe, but I do not recal any one from the States talking about them.
A very cheap and easy way of getting around

I have a friend working for Merrill-Lynch in Alexandria, VA who uses a Go-Ped for fair-weather commutes. He owns a new TL and a 2 year-old Tahoe, but shows up for work in his $1000 suit on the 100MPG Go-Ped. It's hilarious, but it makes sense where he lives. He's also NEVER had a problem with it, and it folds up into a very portable 12 pound conversation piece.
I thought about getting one for commuting to and from school (I'll be 3 miles away), but the price tag scares me away

we have one, but my dad broke it when he jumped a curb with it
so once its welded backtogether it'll get a new motor (if im lucky) that should push it past 40 mph.
great for around town. gotta run to walmart for a pack of gum? no need to wait for slow drivers, just take the side walk!

I use to have a Vespa and I've been thinking about getting a new one real soon here. They are great little modes of transportation , especially with the rediculious gas prices that we have now.

there was an article in fortune or business 2.0 talking about the new vespa. looks pretty nice. that story and a recent trip overseas where everyone had a scooter got me thinking that they made sense. I wonder what the insurance on them is...
btw, MongooseGA and thinksnow, I'm refering to the motorcycle type scooters, not the scooters that kids ride around neighboorhoods. Is that what you two were refering too as well, I've never seen a fold up motorcycle scooter and didn't think you could drive them on sidewalks, but that'd be cool if you can.

There's a Taxi company in Liverpool UK, They use fold up Monkey Bikes www.monkeybike.co.uk.
The idea is, You can go for a night out in the car, Have a drink, then you phone them up, a guy comes out on his Monkey Bike, folds it up into a PVC zip up bag and put it in the boot (trunk) of your car, then drives you home in your car with the bike in the boot(trunk). Parks your car up then rides off !!
They charge a little more than a standard Taxi.
Sometimes you may feel like a drink but your in the car !! Well have a drink then phone these to pick you up. They're fully insured etc.
They've just started off at the moment and heard them mentioned on local radio and I've spke to one guy who's used them and said they are great !!
The company hasn't been publicised much at all , But if and when they do. they are going to be real busy !!

I think they're a blast. I rented one while I was in Italy a couple months ago. It was very easy to ride and you could easily get around other traffic, especially in downtown areas. One of the things that makes them so nice in Europe is that basically you can ride around anyone or anything on a scooter and you won't be breaking any traffic laws. Here, I'm pretty sure scooters, like motorcycles, pretty much have to follow the same rules as everyone else. Still, they're economical and fun, so I'd say get one. I've noticed quite a few cruising around near where I live, so I think they may be catching on in popularity in the States, especially the Vespas.

OK I’ll dry clean the parka and put some petrol in the Vespa GS and it’s off to Brighton for the Bank Holiday…
(flashback to ‘60s and The Who, great days)
