What is your favorite expressway to drive on?

What are your favorite expressways to drive on? Mine happens to be the Chicago Skyway/Indiana Toll Road. Some of the views of Chicago are rather interesting from up there. Second is Lake Shore Drive. Third is a tie between I-57 and I-294.

Not an expressway but an awesome drive is River Road from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. Long twisty 2 lane road that follows the Mississippi river. You can see the ship hulls above you as you drive. The levee keeps the river high so ships float way above the road.

Plantation homes are cool too. Plus the occassional restaurant are great places to stop for lunch.

Now, since you are talking non-expressway, it would have to be US 20 in IL going through Galena.

Sawgrass Expressway. Only 2 lanes in each direction, and there's always some jerk going slower in the left lane, but it's real pretty looking out over the Everglades. On a good note, it's usually quite fast!

NorCal is loaded

We have lots and lots of great motorcycle/sports car roads in NorCal but if it has to be an expressway I'd say hwy 17 between San Jose and Santa Cruz. However you don't want to be without a good radar detector on this one.

since i drive for a living.

i hate all roads...and drivers... ...seriously...alot of people picture Ny as all crowded and traffic jammed up....but as soon as u get out of the city....theres so many beautiful roads.....the Taconic...i84....rt 17....the southern state pkwy that goes to Long island....really gorgeous scenery and the sotuhern state has 4 lanes each way for a while.....also the Garden state pkwy in NJ....has 6 lanes at times...in each direction....man o man i love to drive that thing at nite.....and of course all the backroads that you have to take now...with the whole world being inder construction.....i think no highway maintenance was done from 1965 to the present the way that all these projects seem to take yrs and yrs to complete...and then they have to rip them up about 6 mths after they finish them....to put cable in.....what a nutty thing

Floni,
The Parkways in NY are great! I lived in Schenectady a few years ago and drove back from NYC on the Techonic (sp?) Parkway. I had a rather close encounter with a huge turkey that took my windshield out! I was very lucky it hit the passenger side not my side, the front of the car or the roofline. I drove on home and was stopped about 20 minutes from home by a tropper, whon knew exactly what had happend, he said he sees it a lot. Lots of deer and turkeys on the update parkways.

A few to consider

I-70 from Denver to Grand Junction. Curves, hills, straightaways, tunnels, views of 14ers, rivers, ski resorts. Absolutely the best.

Drove the Taconic Parkway once in the fall, what a great beautiful twisty road with no trucks allowed. The leaves were kicking up, it was surreal.

I-17 from Phoenix to Flagstaff. You start with desert and end in the forest at 7000 feet. All kinds of topography. For added fun, cut through Sedona for some nice scenic twisties.

I forgot one

I-355. I'll be happy when they extend it to I-80.

Mulholland Drive. A road that twists through the Santa Monica mountains separating Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.

Some used to call it "Mulholland International Raceway"
