Are you over insured?

Okay my trusty Autopians,

This forum is for talking about insurance and protection. Have you ever had a car stolen from you? I have. It sucks!

Now, to my question. Are you over insured? Chances are, you will go 7-10 years without a big accident. If you buy insurance with a deductible less than $500, you are giving money away to your insurance company. eek:

a) I have had 2 cars stolen and one of them got plowed into a van during a police chase.

b) Nope. I prefer to keep my deductible at $500. Keeps my rates nice and low.

Thumbs up USAA

IF you are military or parents were I suggest getting USAA. I swear they beat the pants off of everyone! By 10-40% depending on location and vehicle.

They have the best service I have ever had. Just my experience. Ask a military person, I bet they have it!

I agree... USAA is the bomb. I've been a member since 1977. I called them today to add my new Porsche to my policy. My premium went up $24.33 per month. Unreal! I love these guys.

IF ever (GOD FORBID) you get need USAA for a claim they are the utmost best company in the world. They got their act together and I am glad my dad put me on when I turned 15. I have tried the big ones but I came back after a year.

The New Avalanche premium went up only $40 a year over a 3 year old Tahoe. The homeowners ins is awesome too. They never bicker or complain. I guess it has to do with the clientelle they have, utmost proffessionals!

Thumbs up

I may be over insured but with the rates living in a small southern town the little extra premium per month is easily compensated by sleeping well at night knowing my investments are totally covered.
So far no car theft problems. Lived in Boston over 40 years. Now that amazing. Did loose several radios there.

I am, but....

I am probably over insured but I receive a car allowance from my employer and I lease all my cars so I've got to have max coverage at least on Liability and Property Damage. Right now I'm running $100k/$300k.

I have to provide proof of coverage twice per year to the employer or I lose my allowance. It's funny though - I have personal insurance direct from my company for things like rental cars or emergency medical while travelling on business. You'd think they'd devise some kind of umbrella policy to cover their employee's while driving their own cars........

I understand why they don't offer auto insurance coverage to their employees who receive car allowances but it strikes me odd that my employer owns a huge global insurance company and is willing to cover their employees but not their cars.

Anyway, I've babbled enough. Yes, I have too much insurance. I have to.

As far as auto insurance goes, you should check to see if you have "stacking" insurance for Uninsured Motorists if you have multiple cars covered with the same company. It's a lot cheaper than getting higher coverage for each. I also think the $10 a year for rental car coverage is worthwhile.... I think there is some emergency towing and stuff thrown into that as well.

No But Ive had one of the cars vandalised

I have a fleet insurance which covers all my cars which is £2,100 per vechile. There are 8 new RR/Bentley cars in the showroom - all new - and 6 used Bentleys.

Once, this is last February I caught a young lad age 14 stealing one of the logos of a Bentley Brooklands Turbo R, he also scratched the car heavily. In the end the police were totally useless as he was under age to sentence and he got off. In the end my insurance went up, and it continues to climb!!!

John Ross,

Don't know about the UK court system, but try to sue the rotten kid's parents for the cost of vandalism + the increased insurance cost.

You may not win anything, but you will definitely get their attention!

Thanks,

bigltc
