What is the best day to buy?

Hi gang,

This new forum is for discussing buying and selling ideas. Please don't advertise youc car for sale here. The forum is not a classified ad.

Okay, here's a good one for you. What is the best day of the month to buy? No, it's not the last day of the month.

Anytime in September. That's usually when the new models are coming in. But I have learned that it makes more sense to buy a performance car in the winter months and an SUV in the summer.

If you or direct family member works for GM or supplier you can get GMS pricing which is CHEAP! They do not advertise this but prices tend to be below invoice!

The day before the last day of the month is typically the best day of the month to buy a new car.

OK WHY? Sales Quotas?

From my experience it mostly depended on the vehicle you are looking at buying due to hold backs. And now most dealers negotiate around invoice anyway. But can you trust invoice?

Yep... quotas. Most dealerships make the big bucks on repairs and upgrades. So, even though you may pay $100 over invoice for the car... you'll still pay full boat for the upgrades. As the month comes to an end, the sales manager is more interested in making the monthly sales number so the dealership can keep their rating with the factory.

Question

Did I miss something here? You say it is the day before the last day. Why isn't it the last day of the month?

Because that's probably too late to push the paperwork through to make the monthly quota.

I've got to agree with you on that. We got an exceptional deal on our minivan when we bought it off the lot on January 28th. It had been raining nearly everyday that month which I believe also kept the buyers away.

For buying used cars and motorcycles, boats, RVs, airplanes etc. I think the best month to buy is January when the sellers X-mas bills are due and the buyers with cash are few. However you may not find the vehicle you are looking for at this time because sellers that can afford to wait, will.
